The first two sentences

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Leonmc0708 » Fri Jan 04, 2008 3:25 pm

When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high

The first two lines of a song thats sung week in week out.

But have they just become routine words to a song, and the meaning forgotten?

I remember seeing a thread not too long ago, asking 'what does this song mean to you' ?

Had our manager chosen to leave in the summer, he could have picked almost any club from the many positions and opportunities waiting for him to walk in the door. Real Madrid had openly and frivilously tried to nab him.

Yet, here we are, what six months later - where it seems every decision, substitution, formation and more, are being criticized by some. Some of which who stand there,
holding our colours high, before each 90 minutes of football which follow.

And even more hypocritically, once the 90 minutes are finished.

This season saw our greatest start to the Premiership in years.
A penalty decision against Chelsea holding back some effect. I
We've signed prospects, plus the greatest striker at this club since Robbie Bernard Fowler.

And at a time where it seems that points 'might' have stumbled the outcome of our final position this season,
some of us seem to forget to look or hope for that 'golden sky'.

The disappointment of 18 years hurts us all.

But sadly sometimes the 'super fan' status can get tarred with simply -

being a 'Liverpool fan'.

Or 'supporter' is a word I prefer.

I always thought this club was different.

Shankly used to say to the players how they should feel 'privileged' to play for this club.

I believe that this applies to us too.

Remember where we have been, what we have seen, what we have done, what we are still to do -

and most importantly, when things are not going as well as we hope.. 'what we currently have'.

that isn't even one whole sentence its just a clause. "When you walk through a storm, hold your head up high, and don't be afraid of the dark. " is how the first sentence would be written out in sentence form  :D   but actually a great point

When we were kids we used to talk about the game at school, when we got jobs it was in the pub or the office. Of course the Echo was the source of all news, even the radio was weak in comparison, otherwise it was rumours passed by word of mouth.

Then we´d get to the ground and meet 57,000 other fans and poor forth our loyalty and play our part in the swaying Kop singing our hearts out and feeling part of the family. After the game we´d take the bus home hoping the pink would be out by the time we got there to catch the other scores and study the table.

Times were simple, life was less frantic, we didnt spout forth opinionated cr@p on the internet building up expectations, tensions and demanding (?) that owners, managing directors, managers or players should be kicked out on a 24 hour basis.

Whilst you cant reverse progress (?) or times, what do those first lines mean to me? The simple joys of supporting Liverpool Football Club in earlier times, the pleasure they have brought me, the security of being part of a 25,000 Kop as a young lad, the education that if you are determined you can achieve anything as the Reds always did. It makes me proud.

Thats why we need to tone down the verbal abuse of owners, club, manager and team on these internet forums and be more objective lest we destroy the very thing that we hold so dear.

Amen.  :;):

Is right.

I get the feeling that many people on here feel apologetic for supporting Liverpool. I can imagine them, upon being asked whom they support, shirking away and quietly saying "Liverpool".

Of course, the very same people would have shouted it from the rooftops on 26/05/2005.

But I digress:

I can't say that one person's choice of support level is right or wrong, as it's all about personal preference.

But some of the comments on here could quite easily get them a smack on the nose in a pub, or, worse still, labeled WUM Manc or Bitter fans.

This is what I'm looking for.

Worse storms than this one have been walked and left behind by Liverpool supporters. With Rafa or witout Rafa, with silverware or without it, Liverpool Football Club is a classic of world football, a club to respect and learn from.

Some of us may sometimes forget how important our anthem is , here's a clip showing that the rest of the world hasn't, this tv station has even supplied subtitles !

We may occasionally get fed up but we should never feel less than proud.

The rest of the world want to sing with us

On a side note, the commentator is with Cesc Fabregas in that clip. Fabregas said it was impressive and that Liverpool fans have no match in England. The commentator said that no matter if you're a Madrid, Atletico, Barcelona fan, you have to admire that atmosphere.

Needless to say the tv spanish station could not do such a thing nor subtitles with Chelsea, because it's seen as a history-less, woman named football club.

Fook the Premiership.

Yeah it would be great to win another league title, but Manhattan is somewhat obsessed with the Champions League.

Champions Of Europe sounds much better than Champions Of England.

It may be a minority opinion, but Manhattan wants that sixth star.
