In for a new shocker?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Are we in for a new shocker as reports suggests that Liverpool has received an offer for one of our main strikers? Do you have more information about this guys? Owen has less than one year left of his contract, and businesswise it is better to cash in on him now rather than letting him sign a bosman deal in december. Four months and he can sign a contract with whoever, and we will get nothing. Baros is the other candidate. His impressive play in Portugal has increased his valuation, and Liverpool could decide to cash in on him.

that'll be baros. at the end of the day if he wants to leave then let him leave. we only want players who are committed to the club.

all the media has pointed to baros until now, which is why I think if it is either, it's likely to be owen.

Unless Benitez has given Baros reason to leave, I would be surprised to see him move on after not really having a chance to prove himself. From what I read about him, I think he was keen to get a chance under the new boss and show what he is made of.

On the other hand, Owen hasn't put pen to paper yet and certainly appears in no rush to do anything. With him being used to the No.1 striker position, Baros doing so well in the summer and the signing of Cisse....I would imagine that he is looking to establish the pecking order under the new boss before committing to anything.

I've always had my doubts about how much balls he actually has and it wouldn't surprise me at all if the challenge of proving himself to the new boss doesn't drive him away.

We'll miss him yes.....but it won't be the end of the world if he goes.

Should be Baros coz Owen is gonna sign soon. Thus Cisse and Owen will be the starting forwards in years to come. Its only natural for Baros wanted to leave. I don't have any hard feelings towards Baros if he leaves because he is just thinking about his career. Anyway, it wouldn't be too bad for Sinama-Pongelle as he has elavated to the first striker off the bench.

I still have my doubts. I have long harboured doubts about Owens' grit and the amount of injury that he has suffered in the last few years is really beyond a joke now. That could of course be down to training skills etc and we could well see an improvement under Benitez....it could also just be too much football too young.

Having a quick look at some of the other topics today, I am surprised to see that there are other people who share my views of Owen.

I hope a revitalised team will allow him the chance to shine....I actually hope the threat of losing his place will give him the challenge he needs.

We all know the phrase of being the big fish in the small pool....that has certainly been the case for a long time now.

It's a shame we have to lose either of them really.

Not as much the end of the world as if it had happened a few years back.  I'd hate to see him leave though.

Heard nothing about it, but there have been a lot of rumours about Baros and his interest in Barcelona.

I'm 99% certain its not Owen: the tabloids would haave got wind of it and he's close to signing a new contract in any event.

I'll just say, you are probably right, but:

Stevie was meant to be going according to the tabloids, but ended up staying,
Murphy was expected to stay, but has gone.

The fact that the media keep reporting he is staying makes me more nervous than if they were reporting he was going.

just seen the owen in real talks thread. not sure how I feel now that there is a bonafide rumour out there.

It should have made me feel less nervous. I can't help think that there is more truth to it than we want to believe.

sounds like a similar thing as the vierra thing. no real comments coming from the player....just delay tactics.

Not sure how well he'll take to the ol' espagnol.......it's like living in a foreign country you know :)
