Ronaldo got no luck here earlier this season, If a team plays deep and puts 5 in mid 4 at the back you don't need a winger you need a fecking magician.

Just by having a threat on the wing you force the defence to spread out more and opens it up for other players. Babel, yossi, gerrard all tends to run to the center with our strikers and it makes it easier for the defenders to just crowd in the middle. Just look at some of the dangerous crosses petrov got in. And we would have looked much better in the first half if kewell could have done more with the opportunities he got on the wing.

I think we should start to realize Kewll will never return to the player he once was.

and you must have a poster that you throw knifes at, he was not bad today

Ha he certainly never caught the eye either did he? :no

Think you are a little harsh on mancity.......The reason why Arbeloa and Auerlio looked good was because mancity played football on the ground.

When we play teams like chelsea or aston villa who have target man.....Auerlio will struggle because he can't head the ball...

Imo Riise is still a bit better than aurelio in defense but he has lost it going forward where aurelio offers a lot more.

I think todays result has put a little pressure on us to win our next 5 games. Luckily they are all games that we should win, then a result at Chelsea and we are back on course.

For this week, we got 4 points, arsenal got 4 points, and utd got 3.

no worse than either, arsenal will slip up more, just hope man utd get stupid again

I thought we played ok today but Man City defended very well. Gerrard had another poor game though he should have been replaced with Alonso imo. For once Kuyt actually looked alright but Torres was a bit off the pace as well but then he was marked out of the game very well.

can somebody please explain to me why alonso didn't come on? i know he's just come back from injury but we needed someone to unlock the door and alonso could have done this, especially since gerrard reverted to his old ways of bombing around like a headless chicken trying to do everything in the second half.

I agree with those of you singing Aurelio's praises today.  I'll admit that I haven't been his biggest fan in the past, but that was the best I've seen him play for us today.  Good in defence and in attack.  If he stays fit he could become an important player for us, but Riise's not finished yet I don't think.

Overall though he was probably second best to mascherano for man of the match imo.  His tackling and willingness to get on the ball and set the tempo was top class today.  The last half a dozen games he's also been showing more of a willingness to pass the ball forwards, and for me that makes him worth the money MSI reportedly want.

I'm with s@int on this - Mascherano and a striker in January would be my ideal scenario, rather than a centre back.  I have my doubts as to whether we'll do any business though, I don't think all is as rosey between Rafa and the owners as is being made out.  We'll see.

No entirely convinced with that.
Putting the winger on will only work if they get the ball. If the midfield is crowded and closed down this will prevent them getting posession. 5 in midfield will prevent the back 4 getting opened up and inturn will allow the CB to be closer to the forwards.
City today were well organised and were hoping to catch us on the counter attack. Petrov got in as he was playing against 4 in midfield and Man city played on the counter. But they never scored or did they have any attempts for reina to deal with.
Played for a point and got. Not sure a world class winger would have had that much success today.

For what it is worth i personally thought Alonso could have been the man to open it all up today (a world class Midfielder) that he is on the bench hmmmmm :(

we are already way behind these teams mate so its no good us just matching them on points,

in fact its a fecking stupid argument you are trying to make, 'oh its ok because the others dropped points' is ridiculous

good point I don't understand why we did'nt change things up a little with alonso and gerrard maybe playing on the right. It would have given city stuff to think about. Torres needs help up there all the city focus was on him and there was no one there to take advantage anmd offer us another route to goal. Kuyt needs to go!

yepp agree with that, we needed either Gerrard or Torres to shine today but they both had off days so a draw is then the  only result. Again when Babel came on we had more of a threat, when with Rafa start playing the lad from the start. Try Babel and Torres up front for a few games. I am convinced they would be dynamite.
