Just been reading on another forum that loads of our fans didnt get in the game till 70 minutes, a crash on the motorway.

They must have been fumin.

i missed the game, good thing i did eh?

it will be a busy christmas ahead.....if im right which i think i am, we have nothing but premierhip matches now and an fa cup round against luton?

we should win every single one of those premiership games because rafa has kept the spine of the squad as fit as possible.....

as for the match, im glad alonso got a run-out and the young ones are growing experience nuts by the day....its still :censored:

up we lost a cup game, to chelsea......to :censored:

chelsea.....but looking at their team and ours it was on the cards.

The only positive from the game was Charles Itandje made some cracking saves and didnt bottle it at one of the toughest grounds in the prem.

Agree with Mitch- Sissoko is liablity ..he did OK you say? Compared to who? The number of times he had acres of space in our own half and passed to a team mate sideways rather than forward was mind boggling.
Also said teammate usually had as Chav breathing down thier necks and that allowed them to pressure us .

I have seen schoolboys make less hilarious misatkes than his 20 yard passback that went straight out for a throw in.

Anyone who thinks Momo is ever going to be more than an average player (e.g Bolton/Blackburn type) in England needs to wake up smell the coffee IMO.

Very disappointed.

We (Liverpool supporters, players and staff) have to expect a certain level of performance and last night we did not even get near the level required.

Barely December and we can rule out another trophy as well as a title challenge.

We are not meeting the performance level required of Liverpool FC.

I don't get why people are whining and whinging so much about this weak team that benitez put out last night. let's have a look at it...

xabi alonso - one of the most highly rated midfielders around, a full spanish international and a player we've been missing.
lucas - youngest ever player to win the bola de ouro, captain of the brazil under 20s and one of the most exciting prospects we have.
momo sissoko - say what you like but he's an excellent player and is sought after by a number of big clubs
ryan babel - a full dutch international and winner of the under 21 european championship. another of our most exciting prospects
jack hobbs - one of the most promising young centre backs in the country

apart from the keeper (who had a great game) the rest were full first team members, most of them full internationals. its generally accepted now that clubs use the carling cup to give younger and fringe players valuable experience, nothing wrong with that and nothing wrong with the decision to field the 'fringe' players we did.

we looked by far the better team in the first half and played some lovely approach stuff, kept possession really well with alonso, lucas and yes, sissoko, and yes, voronin all linking up nicely. we lost the game to yet another jammy deflected goal from lampard which left the keeper stranded and because of a moment of sheer lunacy from crouch (i'm a supporter of his but i hope he gets seriously hauled over the coals for that one). down to ten men and chasing the game their was very little hope for us without the experience on the bench to come in.

its sad to see a growing number of people using the result as fuel for more snipes at the manager when once again it was a fluke and an individual player's stupidity that cost us a winnable game.

oh well. i actually thought it was a pretty decent defensive display by us. carragher was immense. lucas continues to show promise and should really have taken that chance in the first half. attacking wise we were genuinely toothless though. babel was the biggest threat once again.

can i also congratulate the chelsea "fans" for their continuous chants of "you killed your own fans". really classy you f#cking cockney tw@ts. :angry:

its just said on SSN that Shevchenko and Malouda picked up injuries in the match last night.

just goes to show what can happen when you do play your top players in games like that :laugh:

they are despicable, I wouldnt expect anything less from them, a horrible horrible football club, god be with the days when it was just an obnoxious ken bates we had to listen to while they were struggling and often failing to stay in the top division. Id be embarrased to follow that club. jumped up toe rags is all that they are

Have to question andy_g on Sissoko, the guy looked like class for a whole five minutes a long time ago and to call him an "excellent player" in the face of clear evidence provided by Sissoko on the pitch this season is farcical. We should sell him to one of these clubs that he is sought by before their sight returns!

In truth we were outplayed, but it took a usual lucky goal from them to break the deadlock and then Crouch gets himself sent off and game over. We haven't won an away game in any competition against the mancs, Chelski or Arsenal so why surprise we lost last night? What I am worried about is our squad cost over £100m and yet we're still way off consistency and consistently competing with the top clubs. Only Derby, Wigan and ourselves haven't picked up at least one league point at Stamford Bridge, Highbury/Emirate or Old Trafford and both Derby and Wigan have a fistful of excuses including absence.
