Its probably right Ciggy, the only thing in defence of our net spending is that the Mancs and Arsenal have sold some of their best players for big fees (Beckham, Veron, Van Nistelroy, Vieria, Henry, etc etc )we tend to either keep our good players and just sell the dross.

First of all I'd like to check out if it's actually probably right that figures are true.

If true, then Rafa was wrong with that statement. But the first thing is to check if that figures are correct.

I think the notion of "using the squad", and attempting to build a posse of twenty two players which can be moved around, put into and out of the team to suit the situation probably accounts for most of it. It's probably something which will be commented on more and more as time goes on, whether you're doing the right thing trying to have more "squad" players, or whether you're better off cutting down on the quantity somewhat but upping the quality.

It's a hard decision to make, but you can't seriously advocate paying 17 million for Masherano while keeping Gerrard, Alonso, Lucas and Sissoko and still hope to get finace to buy other players. The midfield area is the one for me where we really seriously need to look at things and rationalise somewhat.

I would sell Kuyt and NOT sign Mascherano if it meant we got a top creative striker instead. I think Mascherano is a great player but our NEED is really in other areas.

I agree I love Masch but we are seriously lacking attacking players, and defenders its crippling us.

Lucas will be great given time and if we cant afford Masch.

But still we need to wait and see what funds are available, cant believe we have spent more than the mancs and less than Arsenal and the two have well better players than us.

If that thing is true my god didnt the bitters go to a lot of trouble to find that out?

Made a sticky on the Everton Only forum bitter kunts.

Does the net spending apply only to transfer money?

I don't think these figures tell the whole story... or rather they don't explain the whole story...

If we assume the total fees spent is correct, then we must compare it to the money we got back from the selling. Because while we are adding players but we had sold a lot of players also. We should look at the net figure rather than just adding up the total money spent on acquiring the players.

like saint has said , they have sold their top players for high prices , i don't wish to mention any names , the list gos on . Arsenal got a whooping 14 million for a 30 yr old henry . chelsea spent 30 million on a 30 yr old shevchenko . the hard truth is , rafa has spent quite abit of money and not sold one of the better players. whats's the highest we ever got for a player? cissie 6 mill? if carson goes for 10 , he'd the highest we have ever got under rafa

Morrienties 7 mill i tink , gonzales 5 mill , bellamy wasn't really that good 6 mill , the list goes on for the players who haven't made it for liverpool
