This match, in my opinion, is there for the taking.  No Terry, the Ivorian Submarine is out, and after watching the Chels v. Ars match on sunday, Ben Haim looks like the Israeli Titus Bramble.

Put Crouch and Babel up front, leave Momo on the bench until late in the second when he can come on and kick the chelsea players around a bit, and we should take the points.  Chelsea are on like a 50 match unbeaten streak at home, so its not going to be a walk in the park, but we have the squad to do it.

Its on Setanta if you have that, which I do not. Its on at Summers if your around Arlington, and I am sure its going to be on live footy.  Also its showing later tonight on e-season console, my viewing options will depend on if I can finish my term papers in time.   :(

the draw is after the match

If we win then it could be a couple of Derbys in the semis - Arsenal vs Tottenham and Liverpool vs everton.

Or we could be set up for a potential Merseyside Derby final for the first time since 1989

Or we could lose and the final could end up being a repeat of last season's final

Quite how Arsenal got through is a mystery, down to ten men and having been pegged back from 2-0 up.

Benitez To Give Chance To Liverpool Fringe Players
Manager Rafa Benitez has revealed that he will use his squad to the fullest as Liverpool begin a hectic festive period with tonight’s Carling Cup quarter-final at Chelsea.

The Reds will clash with Portsmouth in the Premiership on Saturday at Anfield and Benitez is likely to rest his stars tonight.

"We want to win every game but we have Portsmouth on Saturday, so it is important that we use the squad," said Benitez on the club’s official website.

"We have players who are tired so we have to analyse which players are tired and which players are ready before deciding on who will play against Chelsea.

"Christmas is a very busy period so we have to use the squad and that means I have to find a balance for each game.

"If I ask the players they tell me they want to win every game but if you have enough players in the squad with quality you should use them."

Nice to see he's abandoned rotation now :D

An important game as far as recovering confidence is concerned.

I'd go for:

Itandje

Aurelio
Hyypia
Hobbs
Arbeloa

Riise
Leiva
Alonso
Benayoun

Babel
Crouch

This assumes Gerrard, Carragher, Torres, Kewell, Kuyt and Reina haven't travelled, for whatever reason.

I've got a feeling we'll see Sissoko and Voronin in the line up though.

looks like 4-3-3 again...

from .tv: Xabi Alonso is back in the Liverpool starting XI for Wednesday night's Carling Cup tie at Stamford Bridge after recovering from a metatarsal break.  The influential midfielder, who hasn't featured since the end of October, lines up alongside Lucas and Momo Sissoko in the middle of the park. Ryan Babel, Andriy Voronin and Peter Crouch make up a three-pronged attack.

                  Itandje

Arbeloa   Hobbs   Carragher   Aurelio

         Alonso            Sissoko
                    Lucas

    Babel                          Voronin
                   Crouch

Leiva, Sissoko and Alonso all start in midfield ...

Babel on the right wing ...

This may be painful to watch

Edit: Redman, hope it is like you've stated, I can't imagine another formation with this team.

I like this team selection, it's a little stronger than I  imagined it would be.  But I do not like voronin on the wings, he's really ineffective there.  I hope it is Lucas that will play in the advanced role and not Sissoko.
