I was sitting around thinking one day and came up with an idea for an international event/competition It would involve countries picking squads of around 35 or so to compete in 5 different sports against each other: Football, Gaelic football, Rugby, Aussie Rules Football, and American Football.
I would think it would involve England, Ireland, New Zealand, Australia, and the US (and I guess any other country that would want to or could field a team). But each match against each country would really be a 5 match series
It would be a great way to bring exposure of the "other forms of football" to the different English speaking parts of the world. People could develop an appreciation for the skill set of each sport and admire the versatility of the competing athletes. Of course, it would have to start out as a purely amateur event, but it would be quite interesting to see the seleciton process if it got so big that all the top althetes wanted to play in it, given that there would have to be overlap of footballers playing gaelic football or rugby players playing American football. One thing for certain is that the quarterback would probably have to be an actual American quarterback specialist 1) couldn't risk injury 2) no general athlete could just pick up the position due to the sophisticaiton and unique skill set.
thoughts?
