I reckon now is a good time to rest key players, get match fitness in those who need it and for others to prove a point.

I wouldn't be supprised if Torres and Gerrard are rested.

This is a game that could reedem Sissoko. He may get his chance here.

Alonso back? Hopefully. His passing game has been missed.

Double defencive on the left, Aurelio Left Back & Riise Left Mid.

Starting 11

GK Reina

RB Arbeloa
LB Aurelio
CB Hyypia
CB Carragher

DM Sissoko
CM Alonso
RM Benayoun
LM Risse

SS Voroin
CF Crouch

A strong bench will suffice.
I reckon we can beat these this time.

Looks like Gerrard is out.

From The Echo...

STEVEN Gerrard has been ruled out of Liverpool's trip tp Chelsea after going down with a stomach bug.

The Reds skipper will now not be part of the Reds party which travels to London tomorrow morning ahead of the Carling Cup quarter final clash.

With Gerrard out of contention, Rafa Benitez is likely to give the fit again Xabi Alonso his first start since picking up a metatarsal injury against Arsenal in October.

The Spanish midfielder has now fully recovered from the metatarsal injury he suffered against Arsenal in October and is pushing for a recall in tomorrow night’s Carling Cup quarter final at Chelsea.

Having been without Alonso for the last ten games, Reds boss Rafa Benitez is delighted to have him back in the squad and available for selection.

He said: “Xabi is training normally and should be available for the game at Chelsea.

“We are going into a busy period with lots of games so it is important to have out best players available.

“So Xabi's return is a big boost.”

Benitez will still not be able to call on the services of Daniel Agger who is still working his way back to fitness after breaking a metatarsal in September.

But Jermaine Pennant has returned to training after recovering from a stress fracture to the shin and is on target to return to first team action in the New Year.

Good news, think Xabi will make a big difference over the next few games, hope it dosn't take him too long to get his passing range back. Might be worth JC having a rest as he is due a ban if he picks up another card (do they count in cups??) and with Agger still struggling could be a big blow to be without both of them for a prem game!!

Ha ha I like those tactics Bermenstein. Thing is I hope this time he does start to find his passing range again. Even before he got injured he wasnt playing well at all, wasnt hitting those 30 yard passes were all used to.
My new blog for my upcoming holiday.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I'm afraid I got some.

Liverpool have never won a match away from home played on the 19th December.

But we're just playing a little team from down south so there should be no problems.....

This is Taken from LFC History .net

Matches that were played on this day:
Liverpool is always listed first in the result.
Date Result Against Stadium Competition

19.12.1896  2 - 3 Derby  Baseball Ground League
19.12.1903  2 - 2 Bury Gigg Lane League
19.12.1914 1 - 2 Oldham Anfield League
19.12.1925 1 - 3 Sheff Utd Bramall Lane League
19.12.1936 0 - 4 Huddersfield Leeds Road League
19.12.1953 1 - 5 Man Utd Old Trafford League
19.12.1970 0 - 0 Huddersfield Leeds Road League
19.12.1973 0 - 1 Wolves Molineux LC
19.12.1992 1 - 5 Coventry Highfield Road PL

Some horror there....

Shoot the message, not the messenger. :(

On a brighter note, it is Ryan Babel's birthday tomorrow. He's 21. :lookaround

We can do it !  :help

Usually i don't really care for the Carling Cup, well not since 2001 :D , but i hope we win it this year. Not for the kudos, there isn't really any, but i think it would help Rafa buy some time, and might keep the short termist glory hunting paper reading sheep off his back, because i honestly believe that he will get it right.

Obviously the league looks difficult at the moment, although in no way impossible, and it may just go back to being that 80-85 points may be winning total. Also you never know, if we get a date at Wembley Rafa might just convince G&H that its the CL final :D
