LIVERPOOL VS CHELSEA - League cup

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Time to move on folks.

Hopefully Alonso and Finnan will be back for this one, Chelsea are extremly weaker without Drogba I reckon we can take something from this game.

Few kids mixed with the older heads I expect Sissoko and Voronin will be playing.

Wasnt really @rsed about this cup but a tropheys a trophey at the end of the day.

Plus Terrys out for a while they will miss him badly, two of their best players injured.

There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

I won't be bothered that much if we lose but the most important thing would be for Alonso and Agger to get some match fitness.  But a win at Stanford Bridge would be a real surprise considering Rafa would probably play a weakened team.

We are going there for a win, nothing less.

Yes, it's a minor cup competition. But still, i want us to win the thing. Jst like Ciggy said,'a tropheys a trophey at the end of the day'.

Where is it being played? I've not had much of an interest to be honest, but if it's at the Bridge, it will be a good test to see if we can go there later in the league at take the three points off them. our league form away from home is pretty good this season. Perhaps it will be our saving grace.

Although I'm 110% in the 'anti-rotational boat' this upcoming fixture would be the ideal time to rest some key players and rotate. Give some of the younger lads like Lucas, Babel and that Argentinian left back we have (cant think of his name) a run out. It would be good character building for them, plus with the festive period coming up we could rest the likes of Carra, Gerrard and Torres as we need to get back on the winning track in the league.

Can't think of a worst time to put out a weak side.

Now is the time to start building up the self belief of the team and this is the perfect game to go out and win. Chelsea will be smarting over the Gunners game and, despite their big name losses, they will be going all out for the win.

We are in no position to turn down the chance of a trophy.

We've lost one game, well Reading too.

And you say you couldnt think of a worst time, we're not in poor form.

I think this is the time to rotate and rest a few players, and maybe let key players reflect before a muh more important game in the league.

I would certainly rest Gerrard and maybe Carra as they both looked knackered at the end yesterday. Good game to bring back Alonso and maybe Agger (if fit). Can't say I am thrilled at the prospect of this game, still shellshocked from yesterday.

Manure is out...... If we beat Chelsea.....only 1 team will stand in our way for a trophy (and thats arsenal).

Arsenal has a tendancy to play reserves in this tournament..so u never know.

This could be our 1st of 3 trophies this season (or our only trophy...either way i am ok with that)...so i say..lets put on our strongest team (no kuyt, no voronin, no sissoko) and go for it.

Maybe we should try out this 4-3-3 or 4-5-1 formation against chelsea.... If alonso is fit. If not replace him with Lucas....

I would normally anticipate us losing at SB, but this season we could sneak it. What I dread is going there and making it three defeats in four games to arguably put us out of two competitions in a week for the second consecutive season.

Sunday wasn't the crux of our fading title hopes, the mancs have lost two themselves. It is our inability to beat pompey, blackburn, brum etc - we've dropped twice as many points through draws as defeats. A league cup win would boost morale and give us a good shot at a trophy, after all the mancs are out and the blues would be if we win. That would leave just the goners who don't care much about this trophy until the final.

While we've supposedly made improvements under Rafa it is sometimes hard to see that we have. We've managed third in the league, a CL win in a poor season and what is demonstrated is we can't challenge on more than one front so end up with the Champions League as our main aim. If we lose in this cup then we'll probably repeat that, while winning two trophies in one season won't mean we'll win the league, it will at least show we can compete on more than one front.

As for Rafa's continued insistance the league will be decided in March time, well you have to be in contention which we are usually not come Christmas
