I think that's a key point. We've moved up a gear as a team from the first year Momo came aboard and he's not been able to make the same step up in quality.
As a destroyer he is unparalleled but we require more than destruction from our central midfielders now. Hell, even Mascherano doesn't quite meet our needs going forward in certain games where opponents sit deep and invite us onto them, so how could Momo fulfill that brief? So, in games like the Reading match, he doesn't have the quality on the ball to contribute to the attack. Moreover, teams have learned to stand off him when he receives the ball and smother Gerrard or whoever else is in the vicinity. Basically, they give him little option but to move the ball forward himself and do something creative with it (much like they sometimes do with Carragher). This type of situation simply doesn't play to Momo's strengths, which leads to errors, frustration and a lack of confidence.
I think it's time to cash him in. We can use the money for strengthening other departments of the team and he can get a fresh start in a team that will likely give him the games he needs and the role he's most comfortable in.
