do we need new players in yet? I think if rafa can bring a couple of Youth players though, we might not need to spend 20 million on new players. He didn't buy big at Valenica and i for one am sure he knows what he's doing. i'd rather he wait till Jan and bring some players in than rush into signing another Diouf now !

I think its safe to say that there won't be a mad influx of players into Melwood between now and the end of August, so chances are a few of the younger players such as Whitbread and Welsh will be pushed towards the fringes of the squad.

Do we have any good young players in the reserves?

Sorry for the daft question but from my residence in Malaysia, there is precious little info on the reserves or youth squad. I read that Benny gave a couple of games to 2 youngsters (forgot their name) and they accounted for themselves quite well. Does this mean that they will get more exposure from time to time in the senior squad?

I am happy to have reached 500 postings in this forum...

Its hardly a daft question mate if ya from malaysia is it. Its not as if you're gonna know who's bein spoke about as the next big thing over here in the pubs and clubs unless someone tells you.

Welsh (centre mid) has potential.
Le Tallec has potential.
Pongolle has potential.
Otsemobor (right back) has potential.

I've not seen much of the others. Warnock looks quite decent but seen him once and Whitbread.... well he's american so i wouldn't get my hopes up.

Speaking of American, Stu, did u hear the commentary on the Liverpool-Roma game? Sounds like I was watching a base ball or American Football game...

Ostembor had a few games last year but he did not look that impressive perhaps because he was not played in his natural position. pongolle and Le Tallec i know about as they came together from Le Harve and Le Tallec has been loaned to a French club. What i meant was if there are any potential breakthroughs from the reserves/youth team from the academy?

From what i've seen of Otsemobor he looks a very good prospect.

Defensively he seems to be at about a division 2 or 3 standard which is quite poor. But his pace, touch, technique, energy, drive, passing, crossing, strength, dribbling and work rate are superb.

I think if he could improve his defensive game we'd have a hell of a player there.

Welsh and apparently Warnock are the two that are closest to the first team.

Looks like Benitez is judging players with no preconceptions and any youngster on the fringes must see this as an opportunity now.

i fink rafa defintly knows wot hes doin...he send our best reserves (medjani, le tallac, wlesh, otsembor) 2 ve a season of first team football in a different he stryin 2 let dese players 2 gain more first team experience b4 givin em a real go at the first XI next season. n da squard we got now is not bad at least we got rid of da worse investment even diouf although we aint reali brought any1 "BIG" in i fink we'll still cope last yr fat boi manager didnt even no wot hes doin wiv da

We need at least, four world class players to challenge for the championship. The present sqaud is not good enough, end of story.Benitez is not Merlin the magician.
