i would suggest looking at this without the tag of Islam to it. (yes i know the name is religous, but try thinking about this without Islam attached.)

It's simple. Probably the thread that Woollyback opened the other day is blasphemus from a catholic point of view.

But, if he writes that post in Spain, nothing will happen but some members laughing the joke, and *a few* maybe being offended.

If he wrote the same thread in the Spain of 50 years ago (imagine internet existed) Woolyback would have been arrested.

So, what's the real problem? the religion? or the extremist religious interpretations and the policitians that use that interpretations to cut the freedom of speech? it's the latter IMHO.

As far as I have talked with some muslims, they are men of peace, and for what is worth with many points in common with Christians. Of course, then there are the muslim radicals that make the interpretation they want. But the problems are the extremists, not the religion per se.

fk 'em, they're not worth a carrot anyway. they should be taught a few lessons in how to behave.

Whatever happened to live and let live?

Having been over there and know people who work and live there now ( Muslim countries ) the main problem is that the majority of muslims are peaceful and tolerant people - but all we hear about are the minority of radicals who seem hell bent on violence. The problem is that they are a significant minority who tend to have strong media links and can express their views.
There are things that go on that shocking and barbaric over there.
But if you chose to work in these countries then this is a risk you take.....

I suppose you can look at Islam now like Catholacism in Europe in our past. It was a religion used to control the peoples of Europe. Exactly the same thing is happeing now in the middle east. Civilisation started in the middle east, we only received it after the Meditaranian did.

Its a pity.

I think we are getting to the point where Manhattan needs to create a new world-unifying religion or at least a school of philosophical thought.

Because it's clear that the existing ones just aren't good enough.

that's exactly what i am saying Dawson. Its more cultural than anything. That stuff doesn't happen here and this is a muslim country

Yer alright - we get the message Islam is not to blame ....its the interpretation of it ruling by fear, to some. Whatever.

The point is - not being able to even utter the name of Mohammed without punishment. In ANY sector of its following/teachings/oppressed nations and as a statement of intent (from whomever) is absolutely f**king backwardly barmy!

Not interested in the broader spectrum here. We are talkng about a group of kids naming a F**king teddy bear - for pity's sake.

Sounds like one of your "darn sarf" cokneyism's Daws. I kind of get the feeling it has to be a rhyme for favour but I might be wrong.
