Gerrard on the right - Possibility?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

what do you guys think of having gerrard as our new right mid with hamann/murphy/diao/new signing/(biscan) in the middle?

part of me thinks he would be wasted out there but ive always felt he is a far better right mid than beckham cos he can actually beat people and puts in great balls.

beni relies on good wingers often in his systems and stevie is currently our best in that position imo. i think especially if we dont sign any new players it would give the team a better balance than having a player like murphy out there who will come infield            ???

murphy will do all this on right hand side before waiting for a new signing.

dun worry about it.

Not sure what formation you're playing there Barnesrush but with Gerrard on the right and Kewell on the left plus the four you've mentioned that gives us a six man midfield . ??? ....... :D   :D

Barnesrush, i like your idea. Based on the last four games, a midfield formation of kewell (LM), Hamann (CM), Biscan (CM) and Gerard (RM)  could be more effective.

Gerard might not be happy tho' (i think he prefers the CM role), so murphy is still going to start in RM.

By the way, Warnock looks very comfortable at left mid at the 2nd half of Roma game. Anyone else noticed?

And I'd also like to clarify for you that "/" means "or", not "and". Apparently some people don't understand what you meant.

personally, i cant believe that some people are actually considering the possibility of playing gerrard on the right.
i'm not saying he couldnt do the job, far from it, he plays good there, and i also agree that we havent got anyone else that good for that position.

the point i think you may be missing is that gerrard playing "good" at right mid and 2 other centre mids playing "good"  is a far worse option than having Gerrard being absolutely outstanding in the middle (the core of the whole team; the driving force)  and somebody average at right mid.

to take away the greatest part of your whole team, just so we can have a "good" right midfielder is ludicrous. what gerrard does in the middle of the park is phenomenal, and even to sacrifice that is just stupid,    f***   right midfield.  centre mid is where its at, in our team anyway , for the simple reason that we've got one of the players who plays it so much better than most.

He'd be wasted out there.

We have a dearth of talent as it is in central midfield so why switch our best player away from the position where he is most effective and badly needed?

im not saying gerrard is a 'good' rm im saying he is an exceptional one. what im saying is that in certain formations or styles of play teams rely more on their wingers and have success with good if not exceptional ball winning and playing centre mids.

being on the right doesnt mean gerrard cant be the driving force of the team as when not in possesion we can revert to a narrower midfield so stevie can exert his ball winning skils the way beckham used to drag england through games when they were not performing. having becks on the right does not really mean he loses his influence on the game.

the two positions are hardly poles apart. im not saying this is how id play just interested to hear everyones views

Houllier played Gerrard out right a few years ago for him to whip in crosses but now that he is maturing as a player its vital that he is kept in the engine room.

Central mid is Stevies best position, absolutely no point in f*cking about with his role and massive influence at the heart of our team.
Central mid allows Stevie to be at the thick of things ALL THE TIME .
If he had been playing at RM last season we would have been well stuffed. Don't disagree that he could play well at RM but why employ a bulldog to chase a rabbit .
