but a striker needs to score goals, kuyt has scored as many in less gaes with ore games as sub. plus, kuyt does a lot more running around. sure berbatov is a good footballer, but hes got no work ethic

Well, you're not alone on this one, despite Kuyt is very underrated in newkit this days.

He is not world class, but, I say it now he's popularity is minimum, I like the player quite much. I consider him significantly better than Voronin as a whole, I trust he will start scoring goals for us sooner or later.

I think some fans want always the team wins. That's natural. Thus they find reasons to explain why we fail, and one of the most mentioned reasons is that we don't finnish our chances. Strikers in this team are thus observed closely, and are the most likely candidates to become heroes, or villains.

So I think some of the criticism has some of that feelings on it. I think Kuyt is a very good footballer, and I stick to him now. If I'm wrong time will tell, he only reached in 2006 summer and not every player is impressive at the beginning. Kuyt is commanded to do a lot of work for the team, he's strong and sacrificed and as much as I admit Torres has an extra thing that Kuyt hasn't, I'll always be reluctant to say he's a bad striker. He just needs some confidence, IMHO.

I have faith on him and Crouch (and Torres, who will also have a drought sooner or later).

Not so sure of that with Voronin, much more a vulgar player that you can find dozens like him in the spanish league.

Ive been looking on you tube for clips of Berbatov and although he is a good player ive seen better clips of Kuyt scoring much better goals and showing better movement. Despise him as a player? Your memory of him is shorter than mosts im guessing.

Yeah I know mate,thats why I said I think he's a decent player. I just don't understand how you can despise someone who runs their heart out every game. I don't think hes good enough for us, but he's a decent player, who's going through a bad patch. Even at his best he's not good enough, but he still deserves a bit of respect. He's not THAT bad.

In terms of footballing ability he's behind several poor strikers we've been unfortunate to have witnessed playing for us in recent times - Cisse, Baros and Diouf to name a few.

Sure he's got a good attitude and workrate but that should go without saying, the fact that those atributes are brought up so often just goes to show that he really hasn't got a lot else going for him.

To say "I despise him as a player" may have been a bit harsh of me - I would never boo one of our players off the field or anything like that, but we shouldn't be putting up with mediocrity such as Kuyt if we want to win the league any time soon.

Aside from workrate (which Baros had a lot of anyway), what does Kuyt offer that Baros didn't?

football intelligence.

baros' general awareness on the field of play was shocking. when he got arrested for speeding the other week i wouldn't be surprised if he was driving into a blind alley with his head down.
