Most underrated lfc players

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

IN contrast to the "worst thread" who are the most underrated LFC players ever.

Rob Jones, Litmanen (by manager anyway), Craign Johnston, Kevin McDonald, Gary Gillespie (must have hated Hanson and Lawronson) all spring to mind.

I thought of Steve Nicol and Ronnie Whelan but I think most fans realised that although they weren't media darlings they were class.

Nicol, Staunton, McMahon, Molby, Bjornebye, Henchoz, Matteo, Babbel...

We've had an absolute ton of players over the years that were never media darlings, but were absolutely invaluable to the club. Finnan's a great shout by Leon, but over the years I reckon Steve Nicol and Jan Molby stick out as two players that never got their dues.

Matteo

Matteo was s.hit Ivor, although Henchoz is a vert good call.

Surely Larry Lloyd was underrated, seeing as he went to play for Forest - winning
a league and 2 European Cups.

Matt McQueen - Liverpool 1892-1928.
Only professional to - play in goal (41 appearances), Defence, Midfield, Striker, and later be Director and then to be Manager (winning a Championship) - at one club

Would agree with Henchoz, better than Dudek at times.  In this team, i think FInnan is are most underrated player....really like the work he does.

I think Rafa was slower than most in realising this and tried getting a bunch of spaniards/dutch etc to play there instead.

Jimmy Case, how he was never capped by England I will never know. Scored a great goal in the FA cup Final but never got the respect for his ability that he should have, just remembered for being "hard".

Steve Nicol was a great player but he hardly slipped under the radar. Think in the 1988-89 season he came third in the Player of the Year awards. For a right back that was almost unheard of.

Litmanen for me was the most criminally underused player we've had in years. Think he embarrassed Houllier in the end.

Others:
John Wark, past his best when we signed him, but his scoring from midfield was unbelievable

Brad Friedel - monumental mistake selling him. Before Reina, our best keeper since Clemence
