We dont have any French posters here do we  :sniffle

If we do, I do apologise, I didnt mean it.

Emerald every time I've been to France I've come accross the arrogance in abundance, and when they find out your English, they merely grunt to themselves and start being very unwelcoming. This is my ow experiance, and I have met a few who were very nice but on the whole, they hate us and we hate them. I can live with that.

When I was over there I got a barrage of abuse because, we didnt have the Euro. They wanted to know why, I pointed out that the Swiss dont have the Euro and a number of other countries. And this French man went 'Tut, but what can they offer us by joining the Euro' They want us in there for our wealth and the fact that them and Germany the two most populated countries in Europe have the lions share of the say inside the EU.

This bloke then went on to say, 'YOU SHOULD DRIVE ONTHE RIGHT HAND SIDE LIKE US', you will one day he said. Yeah alright kurmet ? I thought.

He insulted Australia, too he'd never been there, but because the drive on the same sdie of the road as us, that was enough for him to aformulate an opinion on the country.

Remember the Mad cow disease, remember them (idiotic kids I presume) spraying graffiti all over the grave of our dead who fought to keep their wincy little @rses out of Nazi hands. It was 'Take your dead beef back to England'

There are numerous other incidents that have happened to me with those bu.ggers, but this bloke was in his mid fifties and supposedly well educated.

This is my ow experiance, and I have met a few who were very nice but on the whole, they hate us and we hate them. I can live with that.

I think its not really the whole of France that are deemed to be arrogant...

For me, its the Parisians.... they not only hate us but every other non-french speaking person..

Once you get out of Paris, the French can be reaaly nice folk.

Whenever I go to France (Brittany) I always say I am Irish, the French seem to love the Irish and hate the English. You can see their attitude change as soon as you say your Irish not English. I'm not Irish, and I obviously don't speak with an Irish accent, but they don't know that  :D

LOL

I was going to say that to Bamaga.

It's strange. I was in Belgium a few years back, and I was wearing an away Liverpool shirt. I got mixed reactions from the locals there. A mate stopped one for a light and he looked at us all funny and went to walk on and said something about us being English (because of the shirt). A mate said, "no, we're Irish," and he stopped and turned round with a smile on his face and gave him a light.

On the otherhand, I walked past a group of locals and they started singing You'll Never Walk Alone. One time we walked up to get into an Irish bar there, and a big English fella at the door told us to stop and asked where we thought we were going. As soon as he heard our accent, he was willing to not only let us in with the football tops on and trainers, but we'd get in for free as well. Sound. We never went in, though. My mates were more interested in the Red Light area.

One thing about you English lot that I've noticed when going abroad is that I've heard you before I've actually seen you. Noisy b@stards!  :D

Seriously, I like France and having been there so many times I can't say I've had any experiences that mimic what you describe, unless tongue in cheek.

I've hitch hiked around France on a number of occasions and met some great people. On more than one occasion I've been invited into their homes and treated to warmth and outstanding hospitality. Sure France has some arrogant a'rseholes amongst it's population , what country hasn't ? .

World War I and World War II, It was the good old yanks who helped us out.

God Bless America.  :buttrock

The "Yanks" helped us out, did they? Would you consider that a Market trader "helps you out" by selling you their stock? Or would you reckon that YOU helped HIM out?

Do you realise that only at the turn of this year did Britain finally manage to pay off the debt owed to the US for munitions provided from March 1941 during WWII?

There's a World of information out there

I have firsthand accounts from people who were there during the war, and the American soldiers were big on brash, and small on skill.

"As green as grass" best sums up the typical US soldier during WWII. In the beginning, they were a liability.

As the Allied forces transported munitions (under the guard of a handful of tanks) to the front line in North Africa, they encountered a German Panzer squadron. Protocol at this time (when Panzers were far superior to the tanks the allies had) was to destroy the munitions and tanks before you were within the enemy's range, and retreat. (Simply retreating would allow the Nazi's to utilize the abandoned weapons against us.)

So what did the "oh-so-great-and-noble" US soldiers do? They ran. They actually got out of their vehicles and pegged it.

Oh, and here's another little titbit for your future reference:

The USA would not have entered the War had Japan not bombed Pearl Harbor on 7th December 1941. (Which had little to do with the war on Germany, which is a popular misconception. It was more to do with Japan's own expansion policy into Malaysia and the Dutch East Indies.)

So...

Did the Yanks save the World, or did they simply sell us the weapons we saved ourselves with?

In July I celebrated my birthday in France. The french people I was staying with don't follow football but surprised me with this cake on my birthday.

Arrogant ? I don't think so .

Maybe it just suits some people on this forum to see the world as a collection of stereotypes.
