Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

As expected Vladimir Smicer's injury and Rafael Benitez' admitting that he will be looking for a replacement has got the rumour mill going.

An Italian website today linked former Valencia player Kily Gonzalez with a move to the reds to be reunited with Benitez.

The Argentinian is certainly a similar player to Smicer and he is currently with Internazionale who have brought in a host of midfielders this summer.

Kily is a player Benitez knows so he might be a logical option but we expect many more names to surface before we actually sign someone. Considering our financial situation and Rick Parry's recent comments a Bosman would be the most logical move.

For the record, Rosicky is also still available and Luis Figo told the Spanish press that he doesn't expect Real to extend his contract which has only one year left on it.

Is it destiny? The minute news came out that vladi will be out for six months, Figo disclosed that he might be leaving real as early as next december.

If rafa & rick can sell the club to him we might convince him to join. The fee should not be too high given that his contract will soon expire howver wages could be a stumbling block.

Inter also have dutch winger van der meyde in their ranks. He could be a useful option and probably cheaper.

I doubt Figo would come to Liverpool, i also doubt he would fit in with our style of play.

And to be honest, the great player that he is, i wouldn't want him!

Figo was fantastic at his peak, and even though he is past his best he is still an amazing player.

Great player though he was we don't want to become like Boro and take over the hill mercenaries. We need to look for a young talented player who has plenty of mileage and further improvement in them

Rosicky over Figo for primarily age and costs reasons.

Smicer's been playing on borrowed time for too long and maybe this is the opportunity to replace him once and for all. Vlad's game suits the European Style but the prem has proved too physical for him , hence the injuries .

Figo would be fantastic but his wages woould be a stumbling block and he wouldn't exactly be a long-term solution.  Rossicky or Ballack would be better choices but perhaps more difficult to get our hands on.

Throughout the Euros I was championing Rosicky.
I think that he would fit in with the way i envisage us playing under Rafa.
He's just sooo comfortable on the ball, and looks after it so well.
He's also a good passer and would be able to pick out our strikers with those 'killer' balls.
A good age, but would need a little time to settle but overall a good buy methinks.:)
