The Heinze situation has hurt us in the end, really could have done with him. Any medium-long term injury to a centre half was going to spell trouble IMO and it's happened with Agger. Can you imagine if Cara got crocked? not worth thinking about. :O

carra did get crocked mate, we are just lucky it wasn't at the same time as agger or we might have lost those games we drew

Huh?

It is Hyypia's fault everyone around him are suddenly :censored:?

He has some intense purply-green negative aura then does he?

I don't blame Sami for either of the own goals but watching him play lately and he's been caught out of position on numberous occassions and either Finnan or Carra have had to bail him out, hopefully Agger will be back soon, I have a feeling Rafa will buy a CB in January :;):

Hyypia is still a legend but I'm unsure if he's the man for the job at the moment, I don't think Hobbs is experienced enough to deal with the pressure yet but we don't really have any other options, apart from Agger I don't think Rafa has been too successful at buying centre backs judging by Pelegerino and Paletta :(

Rafa has failed.

one defender gets injured and our defense can't cope, hypia is a legend but so is Alan Hanson and I wouldn't want him to be playing centre back against Arsenal. Hypia should never play again after the January deadline when Rafa must get more cover.

Rafa has spent huge money and this is a massive failing on his part.

Hyypia has been unfortunate in that his return to the side has coincided with Alonso's absence from it. He was absolutely fine while he had Alonso in front on him, and indeed looked like the player he was a couple of years ago for a couple of games, but without him there the whole spine of the team looks completely broken. It's not just Hyypia that's the problem - he's being routinely exposed by those in front of him, and obviously he doesn't have the legs to rescue situations that Agger could.

Once Agger and Alonso are back and match fit we'll be a different team. Even having one of them back would help the way our team's set up enormously. With both of them out, we're all over the place to be honest.

Put Hyypia up front.  Given his habit of finding the net lately, maybe he could solve our problems up front.  Seriously though, Rafa raved about Jack Hobbs when we signed him a couple of years ago.  Surely, it is worth giving him a chance in the first team now.  Sometimes a youngster just has to be dropped in at the deep end to see if they can make the grade and the manager has to have the confidence to do it.  With Tommy Smith out injured, Bob Paisley had the confidence to play Alan Hansen in the 1978 european cup final even though Hansen had only made 18 first team appearances that season.  It was probably the makings of Hansen.  If Hobbs isn't ready now, he should be sold.

Also, the best thing that happened Alonso was getting injured for a few games.  Last month, he was being written off but now everyone can't wait for his return.

I said before the season started that we need to replace Sami, he's been good but he's too slow and vulnerable. Rafa bolaxed it up big time selling Paletta and not signing a top CB in the summer. Hyypia was passable in some games last season and also this, however we don't need to "get by".

And I said the other day we need to win about 27 games, well consider that 32 are against teams other than Chelsea, Man Utd and Arsenal and you can work out we can't afford not to beat too many teams like Pompey and Brum.

to be fair to Rafa,  he didn't have a lot of cash to spend when he signed Paletta.

As for the criticism I’m not talking about yesterday's match, there's been a few now where Sami has looked dodgy and you can’t afford to take those type of performances if you’re seriously trying to bid for the title. As Big Niall said, Sami IS a legend, but so is Hanson and I wouldn't want him starting against Arsenal on Sunday.

I would love to see Sami stay as a back up player until his testimonial in the summer, but we are not a charity.  We need the best players and sadly Sami doesn’t fit that category anymore..

Couple of seasons ago with Alonso and Hamman in front of him Hyypia was class but sadly he is no longer an option in the defence. Its sad yes, but players get old and need replacing. Just think one day soon we shall be replacing Carra!

Its all swings and round abouts. Football rotates! :eyebrow

Or using Carra as a scapegoat. Or is this because it is down to Hyypia being classed as scoring 2 own goals in 2 games? From my understanding the goal in istanbul was because of carra yes? Hyypia is a baby compared to Maldini but it just fits in nicely that the oldy should be blamed for our slump.
