Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Right i have a theory, and yes i'm clutching at straws so bare with me.

I'm thinking after tonights performance by our so called team ,that the players as opposed to recent season's have one eye on the league rather than the other way around . We've been looking to the cup comps in the last 3 seasons for our chance at honours. This season though the players are more focused on the league title than on the cups. Actually i think i maybe talkin poo and basically they were sh!te tonight and were beaten by a p!ss poor team . Once again no excuses from the players ,they were awful.

Absolutely disgraceful. There is no imagination in the attacking at all. Alonso might help once he comes back but everything was so static out there.

The team acts like they haven't played against a defensive team before. They kept passing around the perimeter without any clue as to what to do next.

Only Babel dared to take on defenders. Everyone else was content to pass it around. Why are they paying these guys millions if they can't at least take on a defender or two at the very least try to break down the defense a little. Instead as soon as they see a defender they quickly pass it back out.

I hate Man U, Arsenal and Chelsea but I have never seen them get as stagnant as this squad has. And it's not the first time. I thought the game against Marseille was painful to watch but this was worse.

This team just looks clueless on offense as to how break down a defense. Did the strikers even get a shot off the whole game to test the keeper?

This team deserves to eliminated from the Champions league with their last two performances.

Is it just me or does anyone else think that when our midfield has space in front of them they need to carry the ball forward and at least commit the opposition into a tackle. This in turn would create a little space for the front men , we seem to just be passing backwards, sideways, forwards then back again just for the sake of keeping possession. OK we need to keep the ball but at the end of the day isn't it all about creating chances. I'm not the best of players but put me out there and i could make those sideways and backward passes we expect more from many of our so called stars. Babel, and to a certain extent Benny when he came on were the only ones to really have a go and commit defenders.

I'll just once again add that Kuyt is an absolute donkey who runs around the pitch a lot. I would put Torres, Voronin, Crouch, Babel way ahead of him.

We didnt control the game.  We had plenty posession as Beskitas didnt mind us having the ball playing in front of them.  The real question is did we break beskitas down? No.

Reina - unlucky, no chance for any of the goals
Finnan - Poor distribution, not his usual standard
Carra - Immense again, covering for poor Sami
Hypia - unfortunately looks like he has played too many games - some rotation needed :p
Risse - Didn't do anything
Pennant - Looked good to start`but ran out of ideas
Gerrard - Gave the ball away too much but WHAT A GOAL
Masherano - Looked tired
Babbel - Very enthusiastic, but no end product
Kuyt - Was everywhere except where he needed to be .. in the box
Vronin - Looked out of his depth

Crouch - Needed longer, caused problems when he was on
Yossi - Looked lively, good on the ball, well balanced played well

Thats what I thought
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

:D

Lot of guile and work, sadly little or no end product.

Hah! Read my comment NoByBob. We've come to the same conclusion.

I don't know if it's Rafa philosophy to pass it around and look for openings in the defense or the players deciding that for themselves, but in either case IT"S NOT WORKING!
