I'm glad - We lost to porto

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

before you's all go "EH?"

what i mean is it will reduce the pressure on Rafa, everyone got carried away after the Celtic game, maybe now people will be  alittle bit more realistic.he's only been in charge for a few weeks. there's alot for him to do, he cant work miracles.

sayin that when you think of a certain Valencia team, we can dream
its not the chilli sauce on kebabs that give you ring-sting, its the actual meat. had one without chilli, and still had ring-sting. the chilli's only there to mask the nonsense they stuff inside that bread.

It's like an international friendly - you want your side to win, but so long as they don't embarrass you it doesn't actually matter if they don't get a result.

With all the chopping and changing to give people time on the field, and the fact that all the opposition sides are doing exactly the same in pre-season, I'm not reading anything into any of the results we've had so far (yes, including the other night's 5-1).

Good point, in other words. Although being glad we lost isn't exactly the way I'd have put it. :D

No true Liverpool supporter is ever glad L.F.C. lose any match, pre season games dont, I.M.O. count for anything but the build up of fitness for when the season starts. But you still what your team to win them.[Are you sure your on the correct forum] :p :p

i'm just sayin "in hindsight, its good becoz..."

I think Jim's comment is ok.

Of course I'd like to see LFC win every game 10-0, but thats never going to happen.

Friendlies are about improving fitness, trying new tactics, formations and player combinations, and learning things about the side. As long as there are no disasters like a bad injury (like Robbie Keane for Spurs up at Ibrox or Smicer) the result is largely immaterial as long as the manager and the team learns something from the friendlies and gets some good preparation in for the new season.

I didn't see the game but apparently Cisse looked very dangerous at times and Porto had a job containing him.

On a more disapointing note, Owen missed a lot of chances and I'd like to see him at least score against Roma to help him get some confidence back. We need Owen to stay fit and be sharp next season.

well, i think its good to lose as we learn more from defeats and its just a friendly game. Anyway, i thought Liv played very well for the first 30 mins with the 2 youngsters in the side  :p .

People are only concerned with how Pavorotti sings on stage and not in the bath! i.e friendlies are just that, to fine tune, tweak and experiment. The real work is still ahead of us. I am sure that Rafa, like Pavorotti, will hit the high notes and bring the house down  :Oo:

OK to lose the friendly games as long as we don't get totally outplayed with our best players on the field and as long as they get to fine tune their fitness and tactics which the new coach wants to employ.

Let's get our game up to the mark that we'll beat Spurs on the first day of the season and build on that.

As long as we play well and we take something out of the match then a pre-season friendly or even a pre-season tournament's result is immaterial.  Dissapointed we lost but pleased we played well.

we lost to Porto in a friendly,it doesn't matter as long as the players are getting fitter, the manager is finalising his first 11 and the the team are ready for the Spurs match.

When we were winning the league ad european cups every other year we used to lose just about every pre season game.

no one likes to see their team lose ...but maybe this was a good defeat as it will show rafa that he does need a few more signings......
