I didn't know that's what a barra looked like. Was in Sydney on holiday with the wife a few years back and we went to a restaurant called "Doyle's" at Watson's Bay. It was there that I got my 1st taste of Barramundi and loved it....

An aussie mate told me that most of the Barra sold into restaurants are farmed but nothing beat a wild beast....

Bet that beauty tasted fantastic.....

Dont quote me on this bit mate, but I think the farmed barra are bred in freshwater. So I've heard it can taste slightly earthy. The best Barra to eat are the salty's as the salt in the water adds to he flavour and nulify's the earthy freswater taste.

As for eating that thing well

you wouldnt believe it but the charter guy that took me out does alot for wildlife in Bamaga. And of course they Barra fishing's have their seasons, I caught that beauty a week after the season closed, (so they can breed) and old mate said I had to put it back. Fair enough really, I'd never returned a fish back to the water, as I eat all mine, and wouldnt of mined chomping through that thing. But it did give me a weird and great feeling of returning that big fish back to the water.

Didn't know that either.... but farmed or not, the fish I had was heavenly...... I can only imagine what a wild one must taste like.....

Will find out soon though.... Once the wife foals (she'll kill me if she ever found out I've reffered to her as a mare/nag ....

), I'm planning to take the family down to the Hamilton islands for a holiday..... Once my daughter is around 6 months old..... should be in May next year....

Are you around the Cairns area?... Give me a buzz if you are and we can have a couple of VB's and I'll introduce you to the family...
