Well we're currently not on course for the title. P9 W5 D4 L0 gives a projected final total of 80.

Premiership winning points tallies (second in brackets)

1992/93 1st = P42 Pts 84 (2nd = 74)
1993/94 1st = P42 Pts 92 (2nd = 84)
1994/95 1st = P42 Pts 89 (2nd = 88)
1995/96 1st = P38 Pts 82 (2nd = 78)
1996/97 1st = P38 Pts 75 (2nd = 68, 3 teams including Liverpool in 4th on GD)
1997/98 1st = P38 Pts 78 (2nd = 77)
1998/99 1st = P38 Pts 79 (2nd = 78)
1999/00 1st = P38 Pts 91 (2nd = 73)
2000/01 1st = P38 Pts 80 (2nd = 70)
2001/02 1st = P38 Pts 87 (2nd = 80)
2002/03 1st = P38 Pts 83 (2nd = 78)
2003/04 1st = P38 Pts 90 (2nd = 79)
2004/05 1st = P38 Pts 95 (2nd = 83)
2005/06 1st = P38 Pts 91 (2nd = 83)
2006/07 1st = P38 Pts 89 (2nd = 83)

So we're not far off a projected second, we need to avoid drawing too many and push for wins. The average number of wins registered by the champions over the past five years is 27.4 and the most Rafa has managed is 25 - we're on course for 21

Well currently based purely on their flow, rhythm, cohesion etc etc Man Utd and Arsenal look a cut above everyone else. Our hope is that our points total over nine matches will eventually represent a distinctly average period in our season as a whole. If for instance we were to win seven out of the next nine while drawing the other two, we would then in my opinion be putting ourselves in a position to launch a title challenge.

I don't reckon the Mancs are going to get beat very often though and at the moment they have the look of Champions about them to me. Unfortunately for us, they have without any question been through a very dodgy spell right at the start and the fact that we didn't open a gap on them right there is probably IMHO the reason most of us will be talking about come the end of the season.

Our only hope is to get into a run and fast as man Utd are already on theirs. I don't like our chances should we lose against Arsenal and go nine points behind them, even though I agree with many that I think they'll struggle to maintain their momentum. Man Utd are a different kettle of fish entirely though, and if we were to fall seven or eight points behind them our title challenge would be almost over at that point in my opinion.

If supposed "big" teams like villa get beat so easily because they thought Zat Knight was a decent defender     then I can't see enough teams even taking a point off them let alone all three. Reo Medi-Ocre got sent off pointlessly, I though the rules were to only send keepers off if the striker was heading for goal not away and frankly villa are still simply not a great side with a not great manager. You can draw comparisons between O'Neill and McClueless - both have lost UEFA Cup finals, both have won the mickey mouse cup in England and both managed reasonable league positions at their respective Premiership clubs. However O'Neill is hailed as 'the messiah' and McClueless is not. I guess that second mickey mouse cup and winning lots in the two horse SPL sealed the deal...........

i would love to see both owen and torres play together but frankly that the same odds as me banging pam anderson . Just imagine 2 of the swiftest strikers in the league , every defence would tremble if they get the service that they need , torres can make chnaces on his own but owen  i feel needs to be spoon fed though .. During the england game he was anonymous throughout

Anything less and Rafa MUST go.

:D what an hilarious thread !

I want Liverpool to be in the title race and I would love us to win 1 or 2 more cups. I want the league but I am willing to wait - RAfa will win it for us I have absolute belief in that !
