Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I actually like the team he's picked given whats available. I like Gerrard on the right as I've said a hundred times, I think Sissoko and Masherano will be combative in the middle, and Benayoun will never have a better chance to make an impression.

Up top, given the fact that he seemingly won't play Crouch no matter what, I suppose he was always going to go for the other two. My main concern is that Kuyt and Voronin won't provide sufficient goal threat, and Hyppia will really have to play well because they'll target him.

I haven't particularly got a problem with any of the selection, although I would perhaps have liked to see Babel as a gamble, and I think Crouch is very unlucky not to get a game. As for predictions, I think Gerrard will score playing from the right but even so I'd take a point if it was offered now.

I guess the debate will centre now on the players who aren't playing despite the fact they didn't play in the Internationals. We may be in for another interesting explanation in the post match interview.

Gerrard back on the right..... Pennant injured or something?

Bit worried bout our lack of pace..... with the old legs in the bluesh!te defence, we could really exploit them with pace......

On tenterhooks right now....

Gonna have to depend on you lads to update the progress of the game as I've got no TV coverage here and no streams..... :(

It looks to me like he's picked a team of battlers. (apart from Benayoun :D) I think we may just do it if Mascherano and Sissoko can get their act together.

Another thing, maybe it's worthy of a new thread, but has Rafa decided to not capitulate to media harassing by playing Gerrard back on the right? Will we see more of this again? He's clearly admitted to some tactical mistakes this past week. Maybe this is one he's talking about? You have to agree: Gerrard's been pretty sh*t in the middle when Alonso isn't there.

well it reeks of "i will try this today, maybe it will work, play gerrard out of position, if it comes off they will all think i am a genius, if it doesnt come off i can say they all have  to work harder in the press conference".

personally I am at a loss as to why gerrard has been picked on the right, unless we are going to go 4-3-3 with gerrard up front, or maybe yossi up front and we play with no real width.

aah well, lets hope it comes off or the forum will be like WW3 again    :D

I don't think it has anything to do with Alonso, mate..... he's just not been himself lately... doono why though...

IMO, moving him out wide is no way to play himself back to form. I'd prefer if he was in the thick of things.....

After all, what better way to do that than against the bluesh!te?

I suggested moving Gerrard out wide, so I can't complain. I just think it takes a bit of the pressure off Gerrard without all the fuss of leaving him out. Hopefully he will score and start to play like we know he can.

Especially since you're already starting to stir up things a bit before the ball has even been kicked  :D  That being said, there a one or two strange decisions about todays team though (especially Pennant not playing), but I really wouldn't have expected anything else from Rafa  :;):

thats a scurrilous accusation  :D

we need the three points here guys or we could be going into next weeks game 9 points behind, if we then lose that we are out the race going into november. these are the cold hard facts.

we need 3 points today and i hope we perform well enough to get them, no more excuses.

if it is just a 'blip' as some say then we have to come out of it at some point, lets hope its today. if its not just a blip and more deep rooted then we will see that by todays performance
