Liverpool v Spurs (H) Prem 7/10/07 - Pre-match and build up discussion

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

My faith in Rafa is still devout, though it is slowly starting to erode, rotation cannot be used a reason for today’s failing, this entire drop in form goes beyond that of poor performances, there is something not right with the players and it’s the managers responsibility to pick his players up and help them soldier on.

If Rafa cannot rebuild the morale of his team than that’s a failing on his part, sometimes players will fail to self motivate themselves and this is where Rafa needs to step in and rekindle the passion and the fire amongst his troops.

The players also need to pull up their socks and stand up tall, because their performances as of late have been nothing short of disgusting. These players take home vast amounts of money each week and they are not earning their money. Maybe the squad will start performing when they are striped of a few weeks’ wages.

I know this is only a blip, but blips are costly and nothing I have seen, read or heard has filled me with confidence that next week will be any different to this week.

If this season ends in a similar manner to last season, then questions of the manager and player needs to be asked. I’m slowly starting to become disillusioned with life under Rafa and the current crop of players and I haven’t felt this way since the last few years of Houllier’s reign.

Could you elaborate this a bit?

Thats it we played as strong as we possibly could have today apart from maybe Kuyt for Voronin. No more blaming rotation now what the feck is wrong we was lucky to get a draw at HOME!!!! Last year we beat them 3-0 so are we just going backwards.

Hyypia is way to slow just counting the days for agger to come back so we are back to solid at the back again .... Hopefully. Gerrard went missing today really needs to pull his socks up and lead this team like he usually does but has been missing from this season bar the 1st two games. Pennant he is so inconsistent we cant relie on him so we do need a new right winger.

I know we are still underfeated but i dont care so are arsenal and there fecking top 6 points infront. Man utd who lost to Man city a few weeks back are 4 points infront of us yes we do have a game in hand and even if we do win it we will still be a point behind. Its time for the whole team including Rafa :censored: benitez to do something about these :censored: performances we are putting in i dont care if we are 4th its been nearlly twenty years since our last title its time to do something about it and stop living in our history.

Dead Right Cigg
I'm all in favour of family friendly games but there were loads of kids around me who were more interested in the bleeding shop than the match.
Where do these people get the tickets from ? I have to pull in favours from all over the place (even Goodison Park sometimes) to sort tickets for my mates and there seems to be more and more tourist supporters each match.
God help us when this Dutch lad, Jordie, breaks through, my daughters are already after him, they'll start asking for tickets and screaming when he gets the ball !

Well siad agree totally.

Its hard to put a finger on whats gone wrong, i certainly wouldnt just blame roatation,

Yes our best players need to be playing all the time to get some consistency in the team as well as the results. We have got enough quality players to get a good run of results going so hopefully we can turn it around before its too late yet again.

We cant afford to give away more than a 6 point lead which Arsenal have already got and hopefully starting with those blue :censored: we can get a win, its going to be a hard game but if we can win it and regain our cofidence then we can win Arsenal at Anfield suddenly it will look a lot brighter again. :sniffle

Totally agree on Pennant too he is lazy and only turns it on every now and again,
As ive stated before he is just the same type of player as Kieron Dyer and Jenas Of Spurs and Ashley Cole all players that are hugely exaggerated because thier Enlglish i have never been a fan of Pennant and i wanted to be proved wrong but i dont think i will!! :)

I've only read the last few pages of this thread, and this is the only post that gives Tottenham any credit.  The first half was pretty non-descript, but in the second half Tottenham ran the game, picking up every loose ball going.  They always looked a danger.  Berbatov looked the class act that he is, and when he controlled the ball, that Robinson had just kicked to him, on a sixpence, it took FIVE of your lads to eventually wrestle it away from him.  Apart from the last 10-15 minutes when either Tottenham sat back or Liverpool pushed froward (who knows what it was), Liverpool never troubled our defence, and really the goal was a surprise.  I know it's goals that count, but Torres had never been in the game - until then!
Had we held on for another minute or two, you could not have had any complaints.

I said on this thread (page 3) how I was really looking forward to going to Anfield.  Even as a Tottenham fan, I have watched Liverpool on TV and listened to the "Kop Choir" with appreciation and awe, and I was expecting to hear more of the same today.  However, your vocal support today was awful, in fact it was virtually non-existant.  I would have thought that when your team is under-performing (And I should know all about that), that you should get behind your team.  "Anfield Library" was spot on, today.  The only atmosphere came from the Tottenham fans.

May I ask why you're on here, and not on a Tottenham site?

And had we actually been at even 75% of our true level, you'd have been driving home in tears after a 5-0 pummeling.

Funny how these "ifs" and "buts" change the tint on things...

Anfield only produces its famous atmosphere when we play a decent team or the bitters.

Anfield can always produce a fantastic atmosphere, no matter what the team we are playing.... One major thing we need to work on is consistency of the team - we are not performing at the moment if that is rotation or just lack of passion I dont believe its got anything to do with the 12th man - the supporters are there through thick and thin.

Well you see the problem with success brings glory hunters who dont know songs and treat Anfield as a day out in Alton Towers one thing you have to take part in this year, a sort of day out.

I have already comented on it today the amount of couples at our game today, its not normal its not healthy, infact its wrong.
But there where hundreds of couples there today I think we can safely say Liverpool is losing its identity.

I am so sad about it........
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

I fully expected to be on the end of a 5-0 pummeling!!
