I'm trying to regain my fitness after a period of a few years without really giving it much thought. I'm no fat knacker, work and stress alone has ensured this, I'm just looking to improve my general fitness.

I try and go for an early morning run now and again, but keeping it up is difficult.

Any suggestions?

I like to hobble round the house. Getting a bit faster too. Stairs are a pain in the ar5e still though...

I'd lost 5cm of muscle girth from my quads/calf and believe me, soon as im up and able - i'll be joining a gym (god they'll laugh!) To get some fitness back. At the moment im a wreck  :(

Sex, football in the beach in summer, walk to work instead of using transport when the weather is good, mountain biking some saturdays (few km, 30Km at tops).

I should do more sport, to be honest. The worst thing about becoming an adult is the lack of time to do some things.

I used to go to the gym but i could'nt train properly because all the women were lusting after me! :D
I wish!
Now i dont do anything to keep fit,im lucky though cause i have an active job i still stay in in decent enough shape..However my six pack is long gone and im getting a wee bit of a beer belly and my right bicep is bigger than the left but i can live with that.

I get about 3 nights a week with my girl in bed and walk the dog about 3 times a week too so i suppose that can qualify as excersise!

I dont think we need to physically train or go to the gym to be fit and healthy and active life is good enough!
But i really have to laugh at some people who wonder why they are fat when they sit behind a desk all day then come home and lie on the sofa with a packet of pringles and a dairy milk!
To be fit and healthy you dont need to do too much.....Moving a bit helps!

I've thought about joining a gym, but I don't buy into it myself.

To me, bar a few fancy machines, there's nothing you can do in a gym that you can't do in your own space and time that isn't as effective for general fitness.

Running, cycling, rowing, walking, playing sport. Bar a few quid for a bike and possibly a nominal membership fee for sports facilities, the others are free.

A gym membership may cost something like ?£500? p/a.

That's a short holiday at the end of the year.

I guess if you're recovering from injury like yourself, it's slightly different, rehabilitation etc. may require a fitness programme.

Regardless of what you do, my suggestion is to get into a routine and rythm..... That way, it becomes 2nd nature and you don't even think of it as a chore....

A good thing to do is to get a partner in whatever it is that you finally decide.... be it running, football, tennis etc etc... It helps in the sense that when you don't feel like doing the exercise, you'll not only let yourself down but your buddy as well....

After me knee op..... I would have been fecked if me mates hadn't pulled me into their running and gym group.

Sounds Cheesy but this note on the gym wall hold true I guess...

I used to lift a lot and play football once a week, then got married and became a lazy b'stard. Went back to the gym 20 months ago, because i knew its probably now or never, got into the gym and found i had become really weak, i  have finally got back into shape, and its hard second time round.  I play football most Sunday mornings, and thats about it. Oh and i cut out cr@p from my diet, bar the beers and vodka!

Don't join those glitzy gyms, you don't train, you just end up staring at the :censored: of finely sculptured ladies on the cross trainer infront of you....well i did! Find a cheap place, £3 session and get a partner, the first 3 months are the worst, because you will be knackered, but stick at it, and has been said, you'll get the habit. Partner is a must IMO.

I'm afraid I'm very unfit and out of shape, two many pints for me own good.

The last couple of weeks I've started walking to work which amounts to about 50 minutes strenuous walking a day. Years ago I used to talk better care of myself, but I've gotten lazy in recent years.
