We dont know the story with Torres. Has he got a knock and isnt able to play a full game or what?. If its purely rotation to let other strikers get a game then Rafa is dropping one almighty boll#ck because without Torres upfront we are void of ideas.

Actually we do know the story regarding Torres.

We knew they would be deep and narrow and compact, so we needed the strikers to play between the lines.

“Kuyt and Voronin can do this. After, when we needed fresh legs, we brought on Fernando, but you could see how many times he got behind defenders. Never. That's because there was no space.

“I have four strikers and I need to use all of them.

“How you pick your team is something you always have to think about, and both Voronin and Kuyt have game intelligence.

maybe its the midfield where the magic should be happening anyways and the strikers can just slot the goals home

We are not missing garcia...we are just missing a decent LW....

Pennant is doing his job on the RW....If someone can compliment him on the LW...we will stretch teams apart.

Then you can see the real gerrard bull-dozing down the centre to score spectacular goals...

I can't believe rafa bought babel as a LW.....I mean...it was so evident that he is a support striker.  :no

I agree... with an addition of a very good LW, our squad would improve leaps and bounds...

(now for the upteenth time sell crouch and...........)  :D

common sense tells us already that it doesn't work, it hasn't worked the last 3 seasons and it wont work this season.

you want me to trust someone that doesn't learn from their mistakes, well sorry but i cant trust someone like that. the minute he learns what he has been doing wrong will be a great day for our club and will give us some chance to move forward

Well in that case, Gerrard should play right wing or the free role then.

So wouldn't the answer be to play a fast paced striker who can try to get around this group of defenders?

Or at least disrupt them?

If you have ten men behind the ball, there is no space for the player to run on to. Everything is clustered.

Had Birmingham opened up, then Torres would had been ideal. But they never did, they were never going to to begin with.

In that case then, a draw was inevitable.

So there's really not much Rafa could have done about it.

Why is that you ignore the players on the pitch that played? How about some of them stepping up and playing like they're capable?

How about being innovative and creative in a game that needs such things in order to open up the opposition?

It's not just the manager. It's not like he goes on the pitch and plays football for us.

Where is the criticism of the players who have played poorly in the last three games?

I don't see it. Everything is directed at Benitez, and that is not right.

The fact is that if you pay more than £20 for a striker he should be able to play well whether the defence holds a line 50 years from their goal or 10 yards from their goal.

From what I have seen, Torres has far more ability to break down a deep lying defence than any of our other strikers, he has the pace, technique and footwork to do damage to stubborn defences.

If it was a tactical decision not to start Torres it was the wrong decision. He looks like he could be the only other match winner after Gerrard and we simply can’t afford to leave these 2 out of games for tactical reasons.

You mean like he played well against Porto?  ???

Fact of the matter is, our team has been under performing with Torres and without Torres.

You mean the game that Porto controlled from start to finish?

The game were we could not keep hold of the ball?

The Birmingham game and the Porto game are not comparable, we had most of the ball against Birmingham, we just could not do anything with it.

Ex-f'ckin-zackerly mate, Torres is better in almost every department and would of been more of a threat in every situation.

By the way...anyone who claims Birmingham sat deep with 10 men behind the ball are talking b'llocks cos Rafa used it as his excuse, they played as far up the pitch as other teams do, and dropped back in deep as quickly as possible when they lost posession, Fernando on the shoulder would of exploited that.
Rafa's comment about him not getting in behind when he come is a little lame as well, as the air of inevitability of the draw had set in on most of the players and the fans.
The lad is not a magician.

Unless you are Voronin who cost less than £20 !

rafa made a mistake with gerrard being on the right and now he has corrected it. great he realised one mistake and changed it, now he has to realise a few more mistakes and change them also and everything will be hunky dory
