so pavarati has died of pancreatic cancer age 71. He in a way brought opera to football with nesun dorma, of course it wasn't written by him and probably any tenor could have done it justice but it brought him to the. nesun dorma was also my nans favourite piece of music and it was played at her cremation.

i suppose those of us who can remember italia 90 can envisage certain pictures to the music.

i just went on another forum and saw the jokes about it already, 'i hope its not falsetto' and 'i had a tenor on him', so now the jokes are out of the way

I thought he was getting better. Sorry to hear the news - didn't he play football in his youth? A goalie? Or was that the Pope?

RIP Lucianno

i think pav played as well mate, the pope was a goalie and i think pav was a decent player

from wiki

After what appears to have been a normal childhood with a typical interest in sports — in Pavarotti's case soccer above all — he graduated from the Schola Magistrale and faced the dilemma of a career choice. He was interested in pursuing a career as a professional soccer player, but his mother convinced him to train as a teacher. He subsequently taught in an elementary school for two years but finally allowed his interest in music to win out. Recognizing the risk involved, his father gave his consent only reluctantly, the agreement being that Pavarotti would be given free room and board until age 30, after which time, if he had not succeeded, he would earn a living by any means that he could.

RIP Big man. I'll resist the temptation to make a a "don't you hate it when you've lost a tenner..." joke (it doesn't work written down anyway) . I'll always remember him for that song he did for Italy '90. Legend.

R.I.P  Luciano Pavarotti

A tremendous talent who's work is unrivalled in my humble opinion. He did justice to so many pieces of music and has ennobled almost all of them at one time or another.

So much more than 'Nessun Dorma' though...much more.

RIP to a great man and a great voice

Will be forever remembered for Italia '90 - Images of platt, lineker, that bloody green german kit, and toto scillatchi. It was the one and only time I ever cried over international football.

Wonderful voice he has, absolutely quality, definitly will be missed.

He was outstanding when he came to Lebanon back in the late 90's.

RIP Pavarroti.

RIP Luciano. Strangely, I was sat yesterday thinking that he could be the next star to fall.

He was a true talent.

Story from today's Popbitch...

        >> Larger than life <<
Remembering a legend in happier times

RIP Pavarotti. We recall a story we wrote about
him in 2003. While rehearsing for his farewell
performance at Covent Garden, Pavarotti sloped
off to his dressing room with two female dancers.
And was discovered a little later, by the
runner sent to retrieve him, enjoying
oral sex from one, while the other held his
    stomach out of the way.

:buttrock

RIP big man.
