Tattoos - Who has one, how much, and do they hurt

I have been toying with the idea for about two years now and I have finally built up the courage to have a Tattoo ( although that could change depending on the replies to this  :D ).

I wanted the 5 stars after we won in Istanbul but decided against it, I really want the Liverbird from our Club Crest I have seen a few and they look really nice.

I like this one and  I once saw one that had the Liverbird all coloured in but I cant find it anywhere.

What I want to know is ,who has one, how much was it,why did you get it, do you regret having it done and finally tell the truth DOES IT HURT !. I have spoke to several people who have had one  done, some say it hurts some say it doesn't, is it just bravado from the ones who say it doesn't hurt ? I asked a Tattooist and he said "I'm not going to lie to you, yeah it hurts" but I suppose it depends on your pain threshold ?

Finally describe in the best way you can what sort of pain level would you compare it to, and the best and worse place  to have one ?

Thanks in advance

I've had loads done. It isn't the kind of pain thats unbearable mate..more like 'uncomfortable'

Except....

The ones i had done in Olu Deniz! Big f**k off aztec thing and a cover up jobby up me arm (35 quid for the pair of em like  :eyebrow ) but i made the mistake of having these done about two thirds of the way in to a ten day jolly. 39 C average temp and i was like a peeled lobster anyway - DO NOT GET ONE WITH SUNBURN is what im trying to say...no matter how much Effes you think you've had  :lookaround

Apart from them...no big deal really. Just like getting scratched (constantly) for a couple of hours or so depending on the size of the job.

Of course it :censored: hurts!
:D

But if you really want one, it'll be worth it. Where you have it will affect the pain. There used to be an unwritten rule that if you had the 10 Commandments tattooed on the soles of your feet in one sitting, you could get free tats for life, but you wouldn't be able to walk for a few days, you'd bleed a lot and the pain was horrifying. It is down to pain thresholds, but remember that it is a red hot needle repeatedly stabbing you and flooding your skin tissue with a foreign substance so its not going to be a shiazu is it? But like I said, it doesn't last forever, it's worth it if you want it and you might find it painless.

I have 3 personally. All on my chest and the one on my sternum (breast bone) hurt the most, and it was my first. The tattooist made a big thing and a laugh about my first being in one of the most painful places, but it wasn't that bad. Generally, the closer to the bone, the more it hurts. But then again, some flabby places, like the underside of your upper arm can apparently be killers.

The most important thing is not the pain, it's the commitment. It's with you for life. Remember that and you'll be ok. And be sure to take proper care of it. Buy some Tattoo Goo and the artist will give you a leaflet afterwards with instructions for initial care. Follow it to the letter and you'll be ok, otherwise you can really mess it up. I've seen a guy get hepititus because he didn't take care of it properly. And make sure the studio has a good rep. The best in the country is undoubtably Woody's in High Wycombe, and the propriator (Woody) is world renowned for his ability. Reading, Manchester and Newquay are the other best places to look into. But don't try and get an LFC tat in a manc studio, it ain't worth the risk.

Prices range from studio to studio. Down in the south where I am £50 at a good studio will get you a 15 minute standard design that's about the size of your mobile phone. A custom job of the same size might by £75.

If there's even a chance you're going to regret it, don't get it. Simple as. I don't regret any of mine because they remind of some great times and due to their placement, they don't weigh on my mind all day. I love them, but i spent a long time deliberating on it.

Just spoke to a mate of mine who had a really good tat done in Liverpool. He said he had it done at DMC somewhere near Aintree. Don't know if that helps. His looks kickass (he has a big Native American bear on his back) and he said they were, clean, fast, cheap and professional.

That is something I didn't consider ! I live in Manchester   :O , I think I will take a mate who I trust to keep an eye on the Tattooist for me  :D , I remember a story about some guy who I think wanted an England one and the Tattooist wrote Argentina !

Some good sound advice there fellas , thanks

I'm going to try and get mine done this weekend, I really need to find the picture of the Liverbird thats all coloured in, it was the best one I have seen so far. The full Club Badge looks tacky, like one of those that you wet your arm and stick it on, I haven't seen a good one of that yet.

I will post a picture of it as soon as I have it done :)

Ive got a WENDY tattoo on me penis. When standing proud it says:
WELCOME TO ENGLAND HAVE A NICE HOLIDAY  :p
Bill Shankly: “I was the best manager in Britain because I was never devious or cheated anyone. I’d break my wife’s legs if I played against her, but I’d never cheat her.”

I've got one one my right arm, its an ethnic sword design that i sort of customised. I took ages and ages before i was sure i wanted it, but i am really pleased with it. So make sure the size, design and location and really considered.

The price is dependant on the complexity, colours...but a mate had the Liverbird done about 4'' x 3'' and coloured and it cost him £70 about 2 years ago.

The pain is nothing really, just annoying, it hurts more when its coloured in, and as has been said, when its close to the bone. Imagine someone doing those tiny pinches on you, for about 40 minutes. BTW it helped that i had a few beers while i was waiting!

Go to the Tattooist, and anywhere near Liverpool will have lots of Liverbird design for you to choose and customise, and check it out before you get done.

had two done on the upper arms many years ago. dont remember actual pain, but it did smart a little. only cost me 30 quid for both, but now most tats cost by the hour (50-80), depending on what you want

i have two, one on each shoulder/ top of arms. the reason i have them here is that i can wear short sleeve shirts without them being seen (just in case).

i had one in hong kong and one in England, I can't remember the costs mate. I am toying with the idea of having one on my calf.

as for the pain, its not bravado mate but i wasn't uncomfortable at any point whilst having it done, nothing too major. i felt it at first and then the bodies pain defence takes over and rushes the natural painkiller there. once that happened i was fine, also maybe different parts of the body feel pain differently
