Masch just shades it for me. I know it's early season, so give it time, but for me Masch started off for us at a high level and keeps getting better, whereas Alonso, over the past year or so, seems to have settled into his comfort zone. I don't see him making enough killer passes or springing attacks forward quickly enough - not incisive ones anyway, rather than just 20 yard diagonals. And if he isn't offering that, I think Masch edges him defensively and is better than people give hiim credit for spraying passes forward.

also, I just get the feeling Gerrard feels more free to bomb forward when Masch is there, rather than Xabi.

Ideally I'd play them both in a 4-2-3-1, but in a 4-4-2, Masch gets the nod - not least cos it'll drive Xabi on to step it up a gear.

mascha oozes class and totally controls the middle of the park in terms of winning the ball and then knowing what to do with it, god we have the best midfield in the world!!!!!! :p

After the two goals of yesterday, the second of the two well oriented, but nonetheless against a very poor defending, Alonso has passed to have from 26 to 34 votes, which is something I can't understand.

He goes upper more often when he simply can do it, which means that when our best player is lurking the area, which is often, those occasions will be more rare. And that's the way it should be.

So what does that tell you Sabre, most of the recent voters for Xabi are jumping on a bangwagon because of his brace.

Does that mean there votes should be scrubbed off ?  :)

Yes, those votes shouldn't be taken into consideration.

I consider them a bonus of Xabi's game, not the key factor to look at, and the people seems to rate Alonso when he scores.

I still see Mascherano is a great midfielder, and he has things that Alonso hasn't and viceversa, but whatever your choice is, it shouldn't change because Alonso managed to score a goal, and put a dangerous ball in a free kick.

Same as.

I thought Mascha had another good game yesterday (infact the WHOLE team did) and although at times he can knock a pass waywards, but his tenacious way of playing is something I love to see in a player, and in a player in his postition. Through his tenacious style he set up Torres from what should of been nothing, which ended up a nice neat goal from the Spaniard. He seems to have endless bundles of energy and is very quick.

Can someone clear this up for once and for all .... Is he a permanent signing ?

no he is not permanant yet,he is on a loan type contract again for this year with an option to buy for 16m at the end of the season, the thing that worries me is he will shine and this will alert all the other big teams from europe putting him into a bidding war,
