All seater stadiums... - Are they safer?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Didn't really want to post this in another part of the site as i only really use this area...

Basically as the title says. I was thinking about it after seeing the memorial in a book i've got.

Just want to know everyones thoughts. Personally i think they are. I'm not saying standing wasn't safe, but imo it has reduced the chances of something like this happening again, even if its a 1% reduction in the chances, in my eyes its worth it.

Your thoughts?....

Obviously seated stadiums are safer because there isn't the same amount of movement whenever something happens but having saud that, if terraces are controlled correctly as they no doubt would be in today's game then I dont' see the major problem. Terraces increase the atmosphere of a game no end and I think it's a shame that there are no longer terraces in football. In sports all over the world there are still terraces and we never hear of any great tragedies coming out of it. I think the rule on all seater stadius was a knee'jerk reaction to some terrible incidents that occured because of groos neglegence on the part of the organisers of htese events. If there were more restrictions and regulations in how terraces are operated then I see ni problem in bringing them back in some shape or form

very true.

i think they are safer- the 2 stadiums im in most frequently are landsdowne rd and croke park. in both stadiums, it is a lot more congested and your more squashed in when leaving the terraces but when you are in a seat, there is much more room to move and less density of people

The atmosphere suffers but it has to be worth the sacrifice. We never want another disaster to happen.
