The Yankees are doing interesting tv shows as of late. Lost, Prison Break, and this Jericho is a very good one IMHO.

It's about what would be the scenario of 25 nuclear bombs in major cities. It focuses in a village that remains unharmed and you're given the info in little bits, so it's quite intriguing.

The riots, the problems they have with food, the plot of who designed the attacks, I liked the first season a lot.

Anyone watching?

Is it on Spanish tv or do you watch it via the net?

Personally, yank tv shows are not my thing.

Just interested to know why they show it in Spain.

I watched the first chapter in Telecinco, and then could not help to watch it via the net because I couldn't wait. Plus, since I can't listen to you lot, it's the only way I have to improve my english listening.

Why they're showing in Spain? because those series (Lost, etc) have good audience, and the Spanish tv shows are family-friend based and do not grasp as many watchers as these ones -- I guess.

English ones such as IT Crowd are shot aswell, but not as often as the americans. It's a shame, because back in the eighties we could watch The Young ones, and yes prime minister around here. Different styles. Red Dwarf was shown too, the english one, not the american.

I'm surprised these types of shows would have an audience in foreign countries, especially if they dub the translation over the English. When you listen to a foreign film or tv show with English dubbed over it, it usually sounds sh!t.

TBH I don't know what the IT crowd is, but the young ones was funny.

What about Match of the Day or Planet Earth for example?, they are apparently exported to many different countries aswell, do they show them in Spain also?

Yes, I understand your surprise. Spain has been traditionally too protective with our language and has dubbed almost everything. Other spanish speaking countries which have not so many dubbers shot the shows in original version. That's one of the reasons for our English being shíte compared to the Dutch for instance. Digital TV now allows to select the language which is nice.

While some dubbing have been brilliant, in others they do not only sound shít but lose a lot in the translation (The Young Ones is difficult to translate). Anyhow, even with the dubbing, it's far better than most cheesy, stupid-humour spanish tv shows. The quality Spanish shows are shown 3 weeks, but are appreciated only by a bunch of us, and then dissapear

Match of the day is not imported, and not sure about Planet Earth, is it documentary? The Beebs's documentaries have a big reputation here and have been almost all of them dubbed.

Yes, Planet Earth is a nature/geological documentary. I read that it was exported to loads of other countries as it was unique-they pioneered the use of special cameras and took footage of previously unseen parts of the world.

I find it interesting which programmes are broadcast in different countries, many of them bear influence on how we are perceived in other parts of the world.

I have a mate from Slovakia who learnt much of his English, and learnt about our culture predominantly from films. Not fluently, but he grasped the basics from films, tv, music... football etc...

Well, nobody should perceive a country based on their programs. You always get details of course, but unless you live there it will be only details.

Say, Little Britain for instance. From that show you learn that you lot know laughing about your mistakes, and exagerate about it with humour, which is nice. But also shows some of the problems of your society, that aren't much of a surprise because they happen in other places aswell.

A country is also perceived by what they do government-wise, but then one thing is government and another thing the people of a country.

For that matter, I always thought you english didn't give a fúck about how you were perceived outside, so see? your insight has been a surprise

i thought Sabre started a thred on Chris Jericho the wrestler. haha. anyway, i like watching ''that 70s show'' and ''punkd'' and ''friends'' and anything with jim carrey or ashton kutcher. jericho isnt available in singapore...yet

Saw a few episodes of Jericho and didn't get into it, TBH, mate. But, I never saw any one whole episode and I never saw the opening one, which is so important for this kind of show. I'll try and give it another go since I think we have similar tastes in Sci Fi!

BTW, Red...I love the new avatar and especially the new sig! Cracker! :buttrock

Bad Bob, maybe character-wise is not super interesting, but the plot is, that's my IMHO anyway.

Red37, that design is great and loved it too mate, Liverpool dominating all Europe with no artificial frontiers painted on it.
