Im after hiring out a skip for a weekend. Nothing too big, maybe the next size up from the smallest. For mainly household cr@P and bags full of toys, a couple of kitchen appliances/pans/fryer, arl bits of laminate flooring etc...

Anyone hired one and how much do they charge? Do they dispose of all the rubbish?

Ive read up on the banned items and by and large the stuff i need to jib is Ok. Can't get word til monday thats the reason im asking in here first for a bit of a heads up. Anyone got anything useful to add id appreciate the info. Ta.

I hired one a few times mate. Get a bigger one than you think as they moan if you pile it high. I think last time I paid about £75, but the big ones cost about £125. They dispose of all the rubbish. They don't knock anything off if you only have it for a day or two etc, so keep it as long as you need it and don't be in a rush to send it back.

This site will give you a clue to size, price etc.

Unless you intend on filling the skip when it arrives, while the driver waits, you need to place it on your drive. If its on the street you need a permit from the council usually.

I wouldnt recommend keeping it overnight brother. When I woke up one morning mine had been filled by every tom dick and Harry, from streets near and afar. :no

Thanks for the info lads and Saint for the link. Thing is its not going on the street (A58). Only place it can go is down a back entry to ours (about 30 yards in) which im not sure a wagon will get access to...plus like you say, the chances of it getting used by every tom dick and harry will be too tempting to pass up on if its left in the alleyway overnight.

Time for a re-think i reckon after giving it some thought.

Hire a van, load it with your stuff then take it to the dump.

Probably cheaper that way, we rented a big feck off Luton van for the day - cost something like £90.

Phone the council Red they will take 7 items for £10.

Thats what i'd normally do...if i wasn't on the club. Its going to be crimbo before i get behind the wheel again, by then the gaffer wants her new Kitchen and all kinds in! Me arl fella's too old and my sisters the only other one who drives - and she s.hits herself in a Micra

I'll have to think very carefully making out me list of items! (especially if its before the kids go back to school - the little devils) I can't wait to get back to work...for a rest and a bit of peace! :glare:

Have you got a Safestore near you? They don't shout about it, but they do van hire, and when we used them a couple of years back they were insanely cheap. We got use of a Luton van overnight for £35. Huge b*stard thing - moved all our furniture, a big a*se 6" pub pool table and a ton of boxes in two runs.

Pricing seems a bit different now, but still looks good. For a day:

VW Transporter - 3 sq metre £38.87
LDV Maxus - 6 sq metre £47.47
Transit Luton - 7 sq metre £61.50
Transit Luton w/tail lift - 7 sq metre £80.80

Put the word out that you're going to have access to a van on a given day, and you'll be amazed how many people will gladly throw you a tenner for shifting stuff for them. A mate of mine made a small fortune hiring a van for the week - suddenly people he barely knew were at the door with their Ikea shopping lists.
