It doesnt surprise me at all. Its all down to contracts at the end of the day. It doesn't matter if he has a letter saying he can go.. he is under contract to play for Utd as they have a contract to pay him a set amount every week. Both parties have to agree when a player is to be sold. He should have paid himself out when he had the chance.

A Premier League tribunal has ruled that Gabriel Heinze will not be allowed to move to Liverpool.

The Argentine international had requested the Premier League intervene, when Manchester United refused to sanction his departure to Liverpool. Heinze looked to be on his way out of Old Trafford in the summer, when the club invited offers from European sides, but the player set his heart on Anfield.

United have remained adamant in their stance that Heinze would not be allowed to join a title rival and this viewpoint has now been vindicated by the Premier League. Sir Alex Ferguson and United officials have always maintained that Heinze could leave for another country, for a fee of around £6.8million, but it remains to be seen whether he still has a future in Manchester.

£6.8 million price tag was met, we're a european club, what the fk is the problem.

FA probably have been bunged by Man U or bummed by Fergie.

they've just said on ssn that he can appeal, so it's not definitely over yet, but i can't really see him winning an appeal now.

Why doesn't his agent set up a transfer to lyon for £5.5m and then as soon as they buy him he puts in a transfer request and we buy him off them for £6.5m. They make £1m for doing f*ck all everyone except Man U are happy.

I'm disappointed but I reckon the way utd have fought this and the manner with which they offered to offload him at a loss to other clubs reflects badly on them. Fergie is a bitter man at the best of times but his bitterness towards Liverpool has never waned from the time his Aberdeen team were walloped by us in the European Cup right through to his spell with Scotland when Dalglish, Hansen and Souness refused to advise the Scottish defenders how to deal with Ian Rush before a game against Wales.

Over the years his hatred of us has never subsided. For a guy that has won so much it is pityful to see him remain so bitter and dissatisfied as he enters old age. Fergie and Bob Paisley will forever be compared as managers but as people there is no comparison. Whenever, I think of Bob I have an image of a smiling, contented man, happy with his lot without even a hint of bitterness. Watch the video of Bob being interviewed on the team bus after utd beat us in the '77 F.A. Cup final. He was so unthreatening and simply accepted the teams fate. No doubt it was this calmness that helped gather the teams composure to concentrate on winning the european cup a few days later.

So we've lost out on Heinze which is unfortunate because he wants to play for us and I reckon he would have been a great asset but when the dust settles on this one I reckon neutral football observers will question the fierceness with which fergie dug his heels in to prevent one of his reserve players from joining us.
