Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Well :censored: of with that descion. Rob Stiles is an absolute joke awarding that penalty. We performed well in the 1st half and it was great to see Torres Net his first for the season took it really well. Gerrard didnt look like he struggled with his toe and played excellent again. The penalty was an absoulute disgrace and descions like that must not go un punished.

Reina - Played excellent was 1st to every ball that came in.

Finnan - Not his fault for the penalty. Linked up with pennant well.
Carragher - His usual no nonsense attitude and spot on behaviour. Saved us a few times against Drogba

Agger - TBH never really noticed him.

Arbeloa - Linked up with Riise well. Really taking to that position now.

Riise - Played well in the 1st half down the left wing. Really showed that essien isnt a rb

Gerrard - Went forward to support the attack well. Didn looked as if he was carrying an inury. Great ball for Torres goal

Alonso - Drop back to let gerrard go forward. When he supported the attack things looked promising

Kuyt - Gave Torres the space he needed all the time. These 2 have played well together against Villa and Chelsea.

Torres - Took his goal excellent great finish. Made alot of space for himself and played great the whole game for me.

MOTM Pennant - Excellent going down that wing. When he had the ball at his feet down the right side something happend. Linked up Great with Torres Kuyt and Gerrard. Excellent all day

Two games, two goals conceded, both penalties.
Looks like penal became the only way for our opponents to score from us.
If so, hope Reina could practice even more on how to save it better. :buttrock

So in the first half torres controls the ball turns, there's a centre back blocking his way to the ball and the ref makes a strong gesture "there's nothing there".

Fair enough I thought, it's England and all that.

And then he concedes that penalty. Outrageous. I understood then why the ref had a big grin when Riise had a terrible pain in the balls, the bástard.

Liverpool deserved to win, controlled well the game, but in so leveled matches a ref "mistake" like that is too important.

I was happy with the Alonso-Gerrard pairing in the middle. Alonso did a decent game, but I didn't like that he was caught asleep in a couple of possessions, and a bad tackle that gave a dangerous free kick to Chelsea. Other than that he did his usual good work.

Have to say that Torres saw the gap that SWP left very well and took advantage very well of a ridiculously slow CB they had. But the best thing was his finnishing, the kind of thing that I've seen him failing often he scored it in a clinical way. Happy for him.

P.S. Our team still seems to be a bit on preseason mode, too many misunderstandings, but that will be sorted out soon.

OH MY GOD WHAT THE F**K, rob styles should be sent to ref sunday league in Siberia. That would not have been a foul in basketball and that non contact, if anything it should have been given for us because finnan was blocked from clearing the ball. (Breath count to 10)

Apart from all that didn't we show signs of great things to come? some of the wide play was brilliant, the triangles being played between pennant, dirk and finnan at times were fantastic. For me the arrival of babel as given pennant a little kick and fair play to the lad he's reacted positively.

Torres showed why rafa had the belief to spend big money on him, he produced a goal we've not seen from us since owen was in full flight, but added to that he give their defence a real battle and never let them settle.

I felt gutted yesterday but this morning i have real feeling of excitement about the possibilities the season could bring, not had this feeling about a season for a while. Don't get me wrong i'm always looking forward to a season but this is something more.

credit to the lads for not having their heads down for the past 2 games despite under hard circumstances they continued to fight. and this time there is genuinely more quality in the team. im proud of them Reds.

A predictable response given the barrage of flak you picked up on here last week so fair play to you. As I pointed out at the time however, a hashly awarded free-kick thirty yards from goal is very different to a farcical penalty decision awarded when there was no contact between the supposed fouler and the attacker.

Things will even out over the season you would hope, but it's definately fair to say that the Gerrard free-kick and the Lampard penalty don't leave us in a position of parity, far from it.
