Playing players out of position - Answer to the underachievers' problems

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby stapo1000 » Thu Jul 22, 2004 7:05 pm

i just heard biscan had a great 1st half last night and it got me thinking. he is a natural midfielder and looked useless at centre back last season. maybe he isnt that bad after all! maybe if he gets his chance in the right position he could do well! and same could go for kewell who was played at left mid and diouf at right mid...anyone see where i'm comin from... :suspect:  :Oo:
Steve Gerrard Gerrard,

Yes. Imagine Owen as a central defender or Carra as a striker. Houllier is a god. He reinvented football by playing Biscan as a cd and Diouf as a midfielder.

I've been saying it for years.

Biscan isn't as bad as people think, he's a central midfielder with potential. He's never been able to fulfull it as he's never been given a run in the side there.

Dispite saying this, i've no doubt you'll go and start another thread saying how good it would be to sign Hargreaves because he can play in a number of positions or how it would be good to sign Aimar to play on the right wing etc.

Houllier really did think that playing players out of possition and killing their confidence was a good idea, why I dunno

I don't really rate Biscan but he may just prove me wrong? ???

stu, why must u turn everything into a full blown argument?

GH always seemed to try players in different positions but it never worked if you ask me. benitez i think will play everyone in their natural positions

Again stu you are contradicting houllier as he constantly played players out of position.

It just doesn't work and any half decent manager only does it in emergencies yet houllier was famous for it.

Was houllier really such a good manager in playing so many players in positions foreign to them ???
Smith to Shankly:My thigh is a bit sore, but I think I could play.
Shankly to Fagan:Tell him,Joe.He has got no chance of playing.
Smith to Fagan:Tell him to sod off.It is not his leg,it's mine.
Shankly to Smith:Oh no son.You are wrong, son. It is not your leg.
It is Liverpool Football Club's leg.

All i was doing was pointing out you are one of those people who suggests we sign players and then play them out of position...

So why make a post like this?

To have yet another go at Gerard?

perhaps to state the obvious, which GH and the blinkered few failed to see, don't chop and change, don't have players playing out of position week in week out,in fact take responsibility for your own failings and not blame everyone else and the dog.

Tell me where i said Houllier didn't have his faults?

Tell me where i agree with EVERYTHING he does?

I don't. I never have and never will. However, he was the manager and done his best and got things right in that time and done things most of us can only ever dream of doing. He also signed players that no-one had heard of and helped others become the players they are today.

I am not going to agree with EVERYTHING Benitez does either probably and there will be times as with Houllier when i get frustrated with his decisions to rest certain players etc. However, he is the manager and its my job to support. I always get behind managers and players no matter how good or bad they are. I love the club and won't have a bad word which isn't constructive said against it. If you don't like it, tuff ******.

being a yes man,or a.r.s.e. kisser, in anything be it business, sport whatever is hardly constructive.Your total kiss-a.r.s.e. to oullier was the most destructive path we were on.It led to our top players considering their future unless changes were made.Thankfully them not being yes men has led to the dismissal of  GH and the arrival of a new manager.

When have I ever suggested signings players to play them out of position ???

I was just stating facts in that houllier persisted with this and yet you still defend him to the hilt.

It was you that brought up the point of biscan being a midfielder and yet he was never given a run in the team in his proper position ???

That like I said was 1 of houllier's major failings.
