I wont be eating any cake, but as many of you might know the 21st birthday is very significant to Americans as I am now of legal age to buy and consume alcohol.  As I have never had a proper fake ID, this is a big change in my life, no more sneaking in bar doors to get into bars, or smoking outside with friends that have been in and acting like I was with the group the whole time ( I dont even smoke).  Still had to work today so that I could afford to go on a three day binger, then back to work to make some more money and monday and tuesday than thank GOD I will be back at school  :)   but for my last year :(

When I was on spring break in London I was outside a chippy at 3 in the morning drunk off my :censored: and ran into someone even more wasted than I was with a toilet seat around his neck. His mates said it was his 21st birthday.  Is this also one of the most significant bithdays in England as well? if not what is? why?

I've always sympathized with my American friends who had to wait until 21 to drink at a bar.  The legal age is 19 in Ontario (where I grew up) and we thought that was a long time to wait.  Quebec's got the drinking age at 18 and that used to cause no end of trouble in eastern Ontario (other end of the province from where I grew up): kids would pile into the car and cross the border to hit the bars and then drive back pished out of their minds.  On top of that, Quebec bars used to serve alcohol for an extra hour after Ontario bars until a few years ago, so all the alkies in places like Ottawa would also pile into their cars after last call in Ontario (1 AM) and head over to Quebec for another hour of drinking before driving home.  Madness! :no

(Sorry Joe...got a little sidetracked there.  Have a great weekend of legal binge drinking but choose your spots carefully--just cause they'll serve you now does not mean that all bars welcome the college lads with open arms.  I've walked into some dodgy establishments in my youth, working from the misguided notion that a bar's a bar until I got a look at the clientele! :D  )

happy birthday joey boy, remember: booze is good, booze is your friend

toilet seats round the neck is quite normal for a british birthday. it makes sure you don't fall in when you're talking to god on the big white telephone later
