You gotta say, this is great timing. They wait for the guy to splash out £100m on the club before issuing an arrest warrant for him. Puts the FA's 'fit and proper person' test for ownership in the spotlight now.

???

i didnt realise we assume guilt now when a warrant is issued, maybe we can do away with court   :D

ok nothing new has come up, there was always going to be a warrant issued as thaksin is not prepared to come back to thailand to attend court while it is still under martial law and there is no elected government. there is no way the UK government will extradite him with thailand in its current state.

the coup leaders are still trying to justify the coup, thats why there are charges against him and if he comes back now to answer any charges he will not recieve a fair trial.

the coup leaders are in a panic, politics is banned here at the moment, no political meetings are allowed, and i know for certain that if they held an election now and thaksin was allowed to stand in the election he would win it.

there is so much more happening here than the british press will tell you

Not that it has anything to do with Liverpool except we can be glad he never bought us but I thik hes ben unfariley treated. He lasted a hell of a long time in a country where military coups happen in a regular basis.
My new blog for my upcoming holiday.

Put this thread where you like, that's what the mods are for. And Rafadodd, if you don't wanna read it, fine. Cos you're always worth reading, aren't ya mate?

Think this is significant cos it blows open a whole can of worms for ownership of Premiership clubs. If Putin tires of Abramovich's 'loyalty' and decided to reel him in, we're looking at a big turnaround in the way our league is owned and run.

well woof you know the army owns the tv and the radio and the television so the press is limited in its comments, although the bangkok post tends to be ok.

the nation (the national newspaper) is owned by the coup leader so you can imagine what thats like, but my news comes from speaking with people, there are also things in the news here that the british press wont bother with.

but the thai government have been acting like spoilt kids, they threatened singapore because they showed an interview with thaksin on tv, they threatened japan for giving him an honorary degree (obviously these two countries laughed at thailand) but they are really trying to control the thais thoughts,

we had a riot a couple of weeks ago by thaksin supporters that i am sure never made the news there.

you also know the conflict between the police an the army, thasksin is ex police and was shifting a few senior army people around, he tol the coup leader he was next and then suddenly we had the coup

i know hes not squeaky clean, the guy was a billionaire before he entered politics and i am sure he has done a few wrong things since he came to power, but he did get things done

what my comments were saying is that we get more news here about the situation while the british press will pick what it wants

Fair enough .

I see that they (the gov't) are also pressing to re-open the investigation about the deaths in Thaksins anti drug campaign.

Bangkok Post
The cabinet approved Tuesday an independent committee to conduct a retro-investigation into some 2,500 extra-judicial killings carried out during former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra's 'war on drugs campaign' launched nationwide by the former Thaksin administration several years ago.

Human rights groups say at least 2,500 people died during the notorious campaign held in 2003 and 2004.

Ain't this a topic for General Discussion then? If not, where?

Anyway, on a quiet day, 1st week of the season, I think it's interesting. I'm still a bit queasy about our own new owners, despite the massive investment. Hicks was still quick despite his slick PR to talk about the value of our 'franchise' not long after the buyout, and to me, the general trend for our clubs going into foreign hands is depressing.

Maybe i'm just looking for signs that the Premiership might be heading for a little bit of a fall, and even if Shinawatra might be getting a raw deal from the Thai military, it's time someone at the FA or even higher got to grips with all the dodgy money floating around our game.

If we've got a problem with Chelsea being rent boys, then we've got a problem with whoever's paying the rent too.

yeah the drugs clean up, its widely accepted here that the majority of deaths were caused by dealers killing buyers and other dealers to avoid being grassed up.

but remember the people now making these claims accepted this for years, but now they are struggling to prove things against him its being brought up.

when the coup happened they promised a general election within 12 months, its now 11 months and they have said there will be no election this year, i feel this will carry on, thaskin wont come back under this regime (and neither would i to be fair) and i cant see them returnng to democracy while thaksin is still out there. his party members have been banned from politics for 5 years but i do feel he will eventually end up in power again somehow
