Jermaine pennant - Regular or bit part

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I fail to see how Pennant representing England can have negative repercussions on the team unless he is injured whilst on International duty. How often does this happen? Not very often is the answer.

I get the slight feeling that Pennant will improve and mature as a player if he is handed a role within the England set up. If Pennant can flourish on the International stage this will no doubt improve him as a player and re-enforce confidence within his ability, it will also help him mature as a player.

It's useless talking about Pennant for England because the player he's fighting with for position on the right wing, is the player he's fighting for on the right wing for Liverpool, namely Steven Gerrard. If he can't push ahead of Gerrard on the right for Liverpool, then he won't make it ahead of Gerrard on the right for England. However, if Rafa puts Gerrard though the middle and Pennant becomes a regular there is a chance, but still a slim chance as McClaren seems to have chosen Gerrard as his right winger, with two sh!t central midfielders. It's up to Rafa to give Pennant a chance, if Pennant takes that chance at Liverpool, England will come knocking only too soon. But firstly it's up to Rafa to give Pennant the chance to perfrom regularly, like he's giving Scott Carson. I don't mean we should loan Pennant out, but ensure he's a regular for Liverpool then England will be just around the corner, depending on where McClaren plays Gerrard. Pennant doesn't have a say it the matter, alls he can do is perform when given a chance at Liverpool, and hope England pick him.

4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

Pennant looked as sharp as anyone one in preseason and hopefully we'll have 2 strikers in the box trying to get on the end of his crosses this season, if he becomes a little more selfish at times this season and takes a few chances himself he'll a star for us on the wing.  The only thing thats lacked is goals, but he proved against Chelsea he's got an eye for goal.  I rate him as highly as any of our wingers, he goes past players and gets to the bye line almost everytime, a few goals and more assists and everyone will be raving about him.

As for England, SWP has lost it since leaving City and needs a fresh challenge, Lennon's fast but don't think he's got much end product yet, I only see Beckham keeping him out but think he'll struggle now he's semi-retired, and Gerrard should be played central for club and country, he's been the best central midfielder in the world for years IMO :)

I also care about my country. Come on the three lions.

LFC1982--i think Pennant also defensive duty. He does isolate Finnan when we're defending and I'd like to see him work harder on his defensive duties. I think our midfielders should chip in with some, but don't believe Pennant needs to be the only one singled out in this catergory. Discluding Gerrard, I'd like to see our midfielders chip in with 15 this year. I disclude Gerrard from this because he's more than likely to bang in 10 on his own. I want Alonso/Mascheranho/Sissoko/Lucas (if he plays)/Kewell/Babel/Bennayoun and Pennant to chip in with 15 goals between them. That's not too difficult to achieve.
