There is no doubt that Heinze is a class left back, but i reckon Rafa sees this as another major PR exserise to please the fans. Just like when we signed Fowler back. We didnt realy need him, but just like poaching a Utd palyer he knows the fans will love him for it.

True,
But my point was that it's beacasue he's a Utd player it gives an extra incentive to snap him up, not to mention antagonising Fergie.

I just hope he turns out to better than the last couple of left backs we've struggled with, deffensively at least. Just thinking about the list reads like a whos who of dodgy deffenders:
Arrellio, Rise, Vignal, Ziege, Staunton, Rob Jones, The Stig and so on (any more?). Come to think of it the most dependable left back we've had in resent memory is the man of the moment Jamie C!

No hassle for us, Heinze has pursued this himself not us.
As far as i can tell we have made an offer, united rejected it but as Heinze knows he has an agreement he or his lawyers are the ones doing all work to make the move happen.

Its great to see his desire to move to us, coupled with the fact that he is actually a very good player....it is definately worth us waiting imo.

Ok i'll let you have that one but he was mostly played out of position on the left. Poor lad has no left foot.

Riise is also played out of position he should be left midfield, the only reason he isn't at the moment is that he is the best left back we have, which I agree is very very worrying :sniffle

I think Heinze will come as slavery was abolished a while ago and a club can say one thing but it does not mean that the law will back them up. I cannot see Utd being able to stop a player from going to a certain club if he wants too not in this day and age. If the valuation is met then there are no other issues and I think the FA will back that up. The laws are more player friendly than club friendly and it is now about money. If we are the highest bidder then we will get him.

Going out on a limb.... Heinze will be a liverpool player and in light of the way he dug his heels in I can't wait. He may well be a good bit of business.

Agent urges Heinze to stay away from United

Gabriel Heinze has been urged to stay away from Manchester United’s opening Barclays Premier League match against Reading on Sunday as he continues to agitate for a hugely controversial transfer to Liverpool.

Sir Alex Ferguson could yet insist that Heinze attends the match at Old Trafford, but the Argentina defender has been advised by his agent not to do so for fear of inflaming a delicate situation. The Premier League board will meet next week to discuss the case of Heinze, who claims that he should be allowed to join Liverpool for a fee of £6.8 million, stated as his sale price in a letter sent to his agent by David Gill, the United chief executive, at the start of the summer. United acknowledge the letter’s existence but Gill has described it as “meaningless”, having separately told the player’s agent, Roberto Rodriguez, that the club would not sell to Liverpool, Chelsea or Arsenal. Heinze, though, is determined to become the first senior player to move between the two great North West rivals since Phil Chisnall joined Liverpool in 1964. By making clear to Ferguson his desire to leave and accusing the club of breaking promises on Monday, Heinze appeared to signal the end of his Old Trafford career.

United have attempted to drum up interest from clubs in Italy and Spain, but Rafael BenÍtez, the Liverpool manager, said yesterday that he thought Heinze would be moving to Mersey- side . “I am confident in the outcome,” BenÍtez said. “We are not looking at any other left back.”

Liverpool have succeeded in making Heinze feel wanted at a time when he is surplus to Ferguson’s requirements, having lost his place to Patrice Evra last season, and also have the advantage of working closely with the Argentina defender’s lawyers. Andrew Green, a London-based barrister, is acting for Heinze and Rodriguez, on the advice of one of Liverpool’s principal legal advisers, Richard Green. Rodriguez has advised Heinze to consider staying away for Sunday’s match. He has no prospect of appearing, anyway. He returned to preseason training late, after his involvement for Argentina in the Copa America, and also has a thigh injury. He may yet attend if Ferguson demands he does, but United have no strict policy on injured players attending matches.

One of his Argentina teammates, Carlos Tévez, will attend but is highly unlikely to be involved even if the protracted saga of his transfer from West Ham United is completed by today’s 5pm registration deadline. The Premier League ratified his departure from West Ham a week ago and his move to Manchester on a two-year contract is likely to be confirmed today or on Monday. “Sometimes the administration side of things takes longer than you hope,” Carlos Queiroz, the United assistant manager, said after Tévez was not cleared for friendlies against Dunferm-line Athletic and Glentoran. “Carlos is still a bit light after being involved in Copa America. He had about 15 days without training but he’ll get there. He is working hard so hopefully he can
play his part next week.”

A lot of reorts (including SSN) saying that Rafa is "confident" that we will get him and as a result of that confidence, Rafa hasnt lined up anyone should the deal falter.

It just occured to me that Ferguson is totally playing us here, if Heinze goes now he gets £6.8million. If he goes 10 seconds before transfer deadline he still gets £6.8million but gives us the runaround, and Heinze misses important games against Chelsea and Toulouse. Slimy kunt

yeah spot on there.it said in the gossip collum this morning on bbc that Heinze has been told to stay away fom old trafford this weekend.Which only means one thing in my book.(He will be glad to get away from the prawn sanchwich brigade anyway and play for a crowd that actually make some noise) :rasp
