Van Basten - great footballer and total prat.

Has the brains of a packet of Twiglets.

Get f*cked off, you dozy Dutch b*stard. We are Liverpool - the team you WISH you'd played for, you idle spastic.

Constructive criticism there Lando you legend...

I think Van Basten has one thing in mind - his own job, which rests on the dutch doing well in 2008 or else he's sacked. If Babel is the player Van Basten says he is then he will have no problem improving at liverpool and this should be the most important piece of advice a national manager can give (if he DOES believe in his ability that is!)

If Babels good enough he'll be bangin in goals and assists for us and he WILL be in that squad.

It's a fair comment from Van Basten. How many promising youngsters move to a big club too soon and :censored: their careers away sat on the bench? I don't know why anyone on here is taking offence seeing as though this is something Van Basten said to the whole Dutch U21 squad a month or 2 ago, before we were even in the frame.

it's better then the scotish league

ps:
Van Basten does have a point.

And also I think young players should not leave when they are still too young (especially when they aren't even the best in their 'own' league competition; Babel wasn't the  best player in the dutch league...not even close).

23 is a perfect age to make the step to a bigger competition when you have reached the peak in your 'home competition'.

Nope, the dutch KNVB wants to go on with Van Basten for the next worldchampionship.
Van Basten told the KNVB he won't comment on that yet. He first wants to do EC2008.

I think that he'll leave for AC Milan as clubtrainer (after ec 2008)

So Van Basten aint thinking about his own job. He really couldn't care less. You can say about him what you want (I myself aint a VanBasten (as a coach) fan). But he is really worried about the young players in Holland. Leaving their own league way to soon (for their own good).
But...it's very difficult when youngsters at 20 are  offered  a 1.000.000+ salary.

Van Basten didn't have to think twice when Milan came calling in the late '80's.

Past doesnt count for :censored:. A good player does not mean a good manager. Ok being a good past player will keep your honeymoon period going a bit longer but thats it. Hes a :censored: manager. If he goes to AC he wont last long there.

I think some of the criticism of van Basten on here as a coach is a little harsh, he has actually got the Dutch national team playing pretty well together.
A few years back the talk in Holland was of doom and gloom with no youngsters coming through to replace the old guard. The De Boer brothers, Bergkamp, Davids, Seedorf, Kluivert, Stam et al were a real golden generation but ageing and there was no sign of any real quality coming through. Rafael van der Vaart and Wesley Sneijder aside there was a problem looming. Marco van basten can't take sole credit but with the od guard gone there is now a real decent core of young dutch players playing for the national team and they are getting results. The last qualifying campaign for the World Cup was very impressive in a tough group and they are on course again for the Euro's next year.
With reagrd to van Basten's comments I can't see the issue, he has protect his own interests and it is a fact that young talented players warming benches throughout Europe are not going to make international squads. If Babel proves his quality and cements a regular place here then I am sure van Basten will be the first to pick him and congratulate him on his success and be thankful that he has progressed with Liverpool. Time will tell.
