Rafa and trhe team are in Hong Kong, preseason has started,  thoughts have turned to the new stadium and Parry & Co and winding up Ure pretending to want Heinze just to annoy The Scottish Git.

No more purchases, no more rumours? Simao, Alves and the others were just wind ups?

Game on or one more surprise?  :buttrock

According to Manhattan's sources, we will sign Lionel Messi and then that's probably it for this summer

I hope its not but who would Rafa sign? first Quaresma, Simao looks like he's stayin with Benfica, Alves wants Chelsea and the Scum are being...wells...dickheads

I'm sure that there's still one surprise waiting for us this summer  :D

It is odd that there hasn't been any rumours in the press for a while tho

There needs to be some more players coming in. At the moment, our squad does not have the sufficient depth and quality to be challenging for the title.

Simao set to join Atletico Madrid for €20millionSoccernet

Atletico Madrid have reportedly agreed a €20million deal to sign Portuguese winger Simao Sabrosa.

The Benfica ace, wanted by Liverpool last year, has been in talks with the Spanish side for some time and has now agreed a €20million (£13.4million) fee to move to Madrid.

The club have offered Simao a five-year deal and he is expected to arrive in Spain to undergo a medical at the Vicente Calderon.

Benfica president Luis Felipe Vieira admitted it was a hard decision to sell Simao.

'The operation is excellent in the money aspect, but he will always be a player in our hearts,' Vieira told the Portuguese press.

'The decision to sell was very difficult for us.'

I am sure the fact that we are halfway around the world is not helping our ability to sign players.  Because of the time difference, there are less waking hours that are similar for both Europe and Hong Kong and we are busy with intense training, playing matches, and the other activities that go along with beign on tour in Asia and having a million fans that only get to see the club for a week every other year. Once we get back, we will still have a solid 2 and half weeks to sort out any additional signings.  I am sure none of them will be big signings so teh fact that they wont get to train the whole summer with the rest of the team wont be that big of a deal.  And I also think Rafa wanted to see how this Heinze thing will play out, which is taking FOREVER with no end in sight

I don't think the singing up part is over.

Rafa said that he preffered to have at least some of them for when the preseason started and that's what happened, but I'm sure that there will be more movements even some of them at the end of the transfer window.

We need more steel. Sign two or three British legcrunchers.

I’d like us to sign a RW before the transfer window closes and if we can get a CB, all the more better, but as CLO has stated, there needs to be more depth and better talent coming in if we are to at least push Chelsea and MU to the wire this season.

I think we still have another signing up our sleeve, right back/centre half most probably, although again it won't be our first choice signing. As our recent right back targets have all moved on, Neill to WHU, Alves looks set on Chelsea/Madrid so we're left with another 3rd choice right back. Hopefully Micah Richards IMO but I have also heard good things of a spanish centre half named I think Rui Albiol, plays for Valencia. Not being a cultured man I don't know much about the forign game, any of my more continetal friends fill me in on this Albiol.

2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

Albiol is a good CB than can become even better with the so important experience. He's too good for playing in the reserves, but he's not better than Agger IMHO and is miles aways of what Carra can provide when it comes to tackle and command of the back four. He wouldn't make it to the starting eleven of an important game.

He'd be a good subs if injuries occur, but for that secondary role I wouldn't pick a young player that mostly need to play. I don't think it would be a good move for Albiol right now. I'd like a more experienced sub, or even better, I'd take a close look at the movements that Real Madrid is doing. Schuster is signing up centre backs and Cannavaro is wondering what's going on. I think Cannavaro would be one of the very few CB that actually could get a straight place in the starting eleven.

But he's too wanted in Italy and I don't know if he'd be willing to play in yet another country.

I expect another signing, i find it funny how the papers and moreen have been given it sh!t like there can be no excuses now we have spent loads, but how much have we spent considering whats came in from sales and the new TV deal, well not that much different from any other summer and still no wingers even though Rafa said we need wide players. Cant see a big signing coming now but i recon one or two more once back from the east.
Dont judge a book by the cover, unless you cover just another, because blind exceptance is a sign,

Ta for the info on Albiol

Stll regarding him, would he worth signing as a future replacement for Carra? I mean does he posses the quality of becoming one of Europe's top central defenders?

Well at least I know he isn't worth looking at. Are there any centre halves from abroad who could be realistic targets for Rafa for the remainder of the transfer window?
