I ask to you fellow LFC fans, i hear around the globe that rafa hasnt been a sucess so far in his three years at liverpool, his range of trophies are there, being the CL, FA cup, Euro super cup, community shield. so i beg to differ, when these people say that he hasnt been a sucess. yes maybe he hasnt been so good in the league so far and at times you question his rotation policy. so does not winning the epl cancel out his acheivments so far and mean he hasnt been a sucess? thoughts?

He has been amazing in Europe but hopeless in the premiership.

i dont know yet but most of the managers coming into new jobs in the premiership such as sam allerdyce seem to be saying that they have 5 year plans so i am really looking forward to the end of the 2008/09 season when i think we will win the premiership. Rafa just needs time to get a proper squad of quality players in and with the americans money he should do this within the next year or 2.

A massive success.

Look at what we WERE, then look at what we ARE.

While we can improve further, to say he's not been a success when there's only one trophy he has failed to land in 3 years (3 f*cking years, ffs - not 30), is a bit shortsighted.

The man is a genius, and with the time and the resources, I am sure he will deliver what everyone craves.

(But even then, certain people will still say he isn't a success, etc.)

He's been a great success and it's now time for the final piece of the jigsaw. As a package he is one of the best around.

We now have the financial backing so number 19 will depend largely on how flexible will he become. Will his stubborness that his ideas are the best ideas take over?

As far as I'm concerned, if he can maintain the majority of his beliefs but be mature enough to incorporate some other much needed ideas we will have a championship winning side fairly soon.

Rafa needs to win or at least make a strong challenge for the league to be an unqualified success. A great manager but needs to show it in the league more this season, rather than in cups.

A success yes, any manager that gets to 2 CL Finals in 3 years must surely be considered successful.

the point where we are now with being so strong in europe is fantastic but rafa will only be remembered as a true great if we win the league

i personally can't picture a better man for the job and sometimes wonder how rafa has made himself part of the clubs fiber already

will we win it this year depends on many things , such as us getting off our @rses early on and staying consistent , injuries to the scum would be good and squad rotation to be practiced with a little more refinement

big questions to be answered are where will gerrard play

what will torres be like( he will need time to settle)

can kewell stay fit

will agger carry on his progression with carra

and many more will all need to fall into place if we are to get the big 19th

Well, im new to the forum but have been an avid tracker of the post for the last 3 weeks. There is only one Rafa, a tactician, a visionary and a leader on the pitch. A bit unorthodox but thats where his strengths lie; if he were to change according to everyone's desire then we will not be where we are at the moment. Let us not forget that he came in at a period when our fierce rivals where massively putting up millionaire club and it is only this transfer period that he has flexed his muscles and I for one am just excited, can not wait for the season opener.

Im sorry, but i just couldnt believe this thread when I saw it, but if you DON'T think Benitez has been a success what do you want?

??What if we win the League? Is that enough? What about another Champions League, will that make you happy? Or did you have your heart set on winning the treble this year? Bet your one of the guys who after signing Torres thought, "now if we sign Tevez, Quaresma and Mancini for another £50mil we'll have a real chance of winning the league, but the Americans wont spend any money"

Please stop complaining, and fingerpointing and perhaps SUPPORT the club, staff and players and when that day comes when Stevie holds that PL trophy above his head in front of the Kop you'll be able to say. "I believed" :love:

Put it this way, would we even be talking about winning the league at this point without Rafa? When he joined, success was defined by finishing fourth and securing Champions League football for another season (and Champions League football was largely celebrated as a cash boon, since getting out of the group stages was an exceedingly ambitious target for us in those days). Rafa's good work in the past three years has fundamentally changed the yardsticks by which success is measured at Liverpool Football Club. As supporters, our horizons have been elevated thanks to Rafa and our expectations have grown to match. It would be prudent, however, to remember how far we've come in the past three years before castigating the boss for not yet delivering us the league title that all of us crave.

I agree Lando and Bad Bob.

I also think that we should demand more to Rafa from now on. Liverpool is always expected to win, but now that Rafa hasn't so much budget constraints, I think it's fair to ask him a bit more from now on. This season we have to go up another step. If not winning the league, at least being with options until the last 3 weeks.

I'd agree with that, mate, but would caution people that demanding that Rafa 'win us the league or else' this season is naive. Man U have also spent big and Chelsea looks set to splash some cash now too (Malouda) so saying to Rafa 'you had money and didn't deliver' over-simplifies things, I think. My approach to evaluating Rafa from now on is two-fold:

1) Can he keep us in the title hunt for most of the season?

2) Do his signings make us an appreciably better team?

If both of those boxes get ticked at the end of May, he'll have earned the chance to keep going. If, however, we're out of the title race early and his newest 'big money' signings flop, then, by all means, questions can and should be asked about whether he's the man for the job.

Personally, I think he'll get it right this year on both of these fronts. Having said that, though, my gut says that we're still a season away from winning the title. Nonetheless, I expect us to run the leaders a lot closer this year while at the same time building a well-drilled and fully-gelled unit that can lift the league trophy come May 2009. :cool:

but yeah i cant see how anyone would think that Rafa has not been successful, lets not forget he has also brought our highest premiership points tally ever(since the sky-volution), just have to win the damned thing.
FA Cup done. CL done (almost TWICE!!) carling cup, uhm who cares? but almost did that too.

He has put us in a position where we are a solid team that does not need major changes even if a new manager comes in. he has done the hard bit by laying a great foundation.
