When fit he's the most talented player in the squad after Gerrard, but his body's fragile.  The odds are he'll get another injury, or a recurrence of an old injury before the season's out, or before it even begins.  Meanwhile he picks up 3 million a year in wages from us.

Have to say though that the poster who claimed Kewell can't do it in the big games is well wide of the mark.  A fit kewell can be the difference in those big games.  In his first season with us before his injuries started, he was our best player and scored in games against Arsenal and United.  He dominated Chelsea in the FA cup semi the season before last and he was outstanding on Leeds' run to the CL semi - he can definitely do it in the big games.

Sort of agree with you mate, we have all been totally frustrated by Harry, mostly due to injuries. But tbh when i seen him at the end of this season he looks like he is actually in decent shape, he looks lean, far better than in previous seasons, and i am praying that he can stay fit....as it would be like a major new signing.

Big fingers crossed from me.

Its a possibility for us, no..

yup Harry will be playing as a second striker as the Kangaroos wants more goals.

and as for his performance last night, it was against singapore. like who the hell is singapore?
he has gotta prove himself against more credible opponents instead of these minnows.

is this the singapore who are the asian champions and was holding australia (whose team all play in europe) to 0-0 at half time, and also hit the woodwork twice and performed very well, until aus got their second goal towards the end singapore were very much in it.

obviously someone who knows nothing about asian football

perhaps when u come down for a S-league match and check out the likes of Home Utd and SAF FC play then u can come and question my knowledge on local soccer.

singapore won the asian cup after beating ur beloved thailand due to a very very controversial penalty. my mate from the FAS itself tells me it shouldnt have been given.

and btw have u checked out the singapore team? we've so many foreigners and give them permenant residency here just so they can play for singapore. if the soccer standard is so great, why do they need all these foreigners?

ok south east asian champs, but to intimate they are rubbish does them a dis service.

but remember i am not talking about you local league so there is no need to watch home utd, we were talking about singapore, and whilst singapore are not a top notch team, neither are they :censored: and they performed quite well against australia. also singapore beat thailand over 2 legs so to say that victory was due to a disputed penalty only also does singapore a dis service.

you also contradict yourself slightly, on one hand you say singapore are no good and then bemoan the residency given to foriegners to halp make singapore a decent team.

all in all i wouldnt say singapore are rubbish, they won that tournament, you can only beat what is put in front of you and they did that, they also came close to embarrasing australia a few times.

now the thread was about kewell, he performed well, he took his goal well, good finishing can not be attributed to the other team, only the individual.

when did i contradict myself by saying the team becomes decent due to the foreigners? with or w/out these foreigners, team singapore is still rubbish. thats IMO.

as for kewell, i say he has to prove himself against tougher opponents bcuz he isnt gonna play aide iskandar or khairul amri in the EPL next season, he is gonna be facing gary neville and micah richards.

his goal for aussies against singapore itself can be played to the fact the keeper didnt do that well to give a proper block but credit to kewell as he used his right feet, not his preferred left.

ive always liked kewell, i just hope he lives up to his potential and earns a new contract at the end of the season.

ah sometimes its like banging your head against a brick wall   :D

you can only beat the man in front of you, whether that is neville or some nomark from singapore, kewell did his job and did it well against a pro footballer, kewell has proven himself time and time again against top opposition, he has nothing to prove now apart from showing he is injury free

I went to the match as well. To be honest, Singapore did really well against Australia until they scored.

As for Kewell, I agreed that he looked sharp, but he did tire out in the end. That's probably due to the heat and also him not being in top physical shape.

He took his goal very well though. Picked up the ball outside the box, went past a player and hit a low shot at the edge of the box. Basically, created a goal out of nothing.

But one thing about Kewell stands out. It is that he make things happen. Before he came on, Australia didn't really create chances. But once Kewell came on, he play a one-two with Viduka and created a one on one situation with the goalkeeper. (which he missed by the way)

Also, he created Australia's third goal with a classic run to the bylines with a good cross to viduka's head.

Singapore may not be world beaters internationally, but they did make Australia's European based players look distinctly uncomfortable in the first half. So Kewell looking good against Singapore is a good sign.

Understatement of the Year like...but this lad needs a good pre-season under his belt, a good run of games where he will maximise in all areas physically. Then we might just see the Harry Kewell the majority of us have been waiting for for years..Last chance saloons aside. Kewell owes Liverpool, now is the time Harry, the fans are eager to see the works from you this season.

I suspect Australia's failings are just that, their own failings rather than the quality of opposition, Singapore are ranked 131 in the world, countries I have never heard of are ranked higher :p
Nonetheless Kewell appears to have made a difference although we all know what he is capable of, my only worry now is the poster who said he tired at the end...didn't he only come on at half time? Hardly sounds at the peak of fitness does it?

yeah...... ???

been good against premiership sides but

wat about in europe against the big time european teams he is yet to prove himself against these teams, he struggles and finds it difficult to get space needed to make an impact in the game...

as the bar is raised and the level of player increases in the big european clubs its not the same harry playing as he plays against the premiership sides....
