Kewell - Looking good

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby 112-1077774096 » Sun Jul 01, 2007 10:54 am

i was able to watch singapore v australia last night, kewell came on as a second half sub, scored one and made one and to be honest he looked fit and good.

i hope he told to play for a new contract next season as i do believe he has been missed last season, he is a quality player unlucky with injury. i think next season we will be able to get the best out of him.

any thoughts (i know there is a kewell thread but i couldnt find it)

oh and the HK games will be shown on starsports so i am sure you will be able to watch them online, should be about 1pm kickoffs in the UK

There's no mention of these matches in the Starsports schedule, if there is I'll be more than happy to post some streams.

Harry looked good when he returned for the last few games of the season and i for one hope he stays injury free, because on his day he's one of the best left wingers in the country.

i really like harry but at the same time I think he struggles when it comes to the really big matches....

singapore.... minows on the world stage.... so it should be only fitting that he should do well... if he didnt there would be serious problems....

however in the big time games that liverpool will be playing i really doubt harry being able to compete against the best in the world...

he struggles.... i know hes been injured for quite some time and that hasnt helped..

he does very well in premiership but has a tough time in europe...

im not against harry he has done alot for the raising the profile of football in australia as has viduka and the other aussies doing well overseas...

i just want to see him perform against the best in the world and beat them in a liverpool shirt....

was good seeing him actually score a goal for a while..... last time i think was at the world cup against croatia when the whole country went absolutley nuts....

He scored a peno on the last day for us against Charlton.

He CAN beat the best - what we need to remember is that he hasn't PLAYED against the best due to his p*ss-poor injury record. (Which is in no way his fault, incase anyone thinks that's where I'm going...)

I'm confident that, should Harry get a proper run in the side injury free, he will re-establish himself as one of the best left-sided players in England. Maybe even the best, as Robben (The apparant benchmark) isn't in great form, as will possibly leave Sh*tski soon anyway.

Quality player when fit and confident (which go hand in hand with him).  If he can avoid another injury setback and get games for us from the very start of the season (when was the last time we had him available in August?) he'll be a major asset for us.

As for games against the best teams, he had a blinder against Chelsea in the FA Cup semi at Old Trafford two years back so he is more than capable of stepping up when it counts.

I honestly think that Kewell could be like a top drawer new signing next season. He's got his weight down, and with a run in the side and a bit of confidence, for me he could be the difference between us coming a distant third and mounting a genuine assault on the title.

What we need on that side is quality options though, as he won't make it through the entire league campaign without the odd rest.

Riise's honest and hardworking, but not good enough out there.

Aurelio looked like he could be an option but got injured just as he was getting nailed on in the side.

Garcia's occasionally good out there, but wasteful in possession and better on the right in my opinion (plus it sounds like he's a goner).

Another signing out there needed for me, but one that's capable of the heights Harry is on his day. Another Gonzalez just won't do.

Does anybody have any sense about this Sebastian Leto kid we've signed?  I gather he's an LM and an Argentine but that's about all I know.  Gonzales Mark II or a truly promising young player? ???

I am absolutely refusing to get my hopes up for Kewell this season - playing for a contract or not.  Call me cynical, but he's had more comebacks than Rocky and the wheels always come off pretty quickly when he picks up another injury.

When fit he's the most talented player in the squad after Gerrard, but his body's fragile.  The odds are he'll get another injury, or a recurrence of an old injury before the season's out, or before it even begins.  Meanwhile he picks up 3 million a year in wages from us.

Have to say though that the poster who claimed Kewell can't do it in the big games is well wide of the mark.  A fit kewell can be the difference in those big games.  In his first season with us before his injuries started, he was our best player and scored in games against Arsenal and United.  He dominated Chelsea in the FA cup semi the season before last and he was outstanding on Leeds' run to the CL semi - he can definitely do it in the big games.
