The fernando torres thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I remember hearing something on talksport where rodney marsh was saying that when henry leaves arsenal fernando torres is the perfect replacement

Not that i like rodney marsh but torres is highly rated amoungst the pundits

he scored goals in the world cup, looked really good in the world cup.....has consistently been a great striker in la liga (although not as prolific as villa)

people rate him equal to villa

i think hell be a great signing.

he has that bit of flair that none of our current strikers have, the moment of magic, cantona or zola esq

Is Torres the next King Kenny then littlehobo?
1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

i know anyone can look good in clips

but watch his finishing, this is a guy who finishes like a great finisher should

he doesnt blast like cisse or kuyt, he places like owen in his early days.

i like his finishing style....

Was on holiday in the states for the last 3 weeks....i thought when i come back and re-read this forum..we would have signed at least 2 players......

Anyway as for torres.....I really hope we don't sign him. He doesn't score enuff goals in the spanish league....Don't think he will score enuff goals here.....  :(

Hope sabre can shed more light on him...

From what i have seen...he looks really slow. Not really suited for this league.

82 goals in 212 games is not a bad return, considering he isnt with a prolific club either

He is their PKtaker and this season he missed five PKs in a row. That is not good finishing.

it seems that we are willing to pay 25m in a player plus cash deal but the clubs are haggling over who has to pay his 10% fee of the transfer.

surely it should be paid by Atletico out of the transfer fee they get from us but I bet we end up paying it.

I seem to recall a certain Michael Owen missing loads of penalties the season before he left us, not a bad finisher that lad  :nod

At 23 Torres can only get better and maybe it's a fresh start he needs, although I'd rather go for a proven Premiership striker or one of talented youngsters like Linfield, I'd be happy to see Torres wearing Liverpool's number 9.

25 million...Ouch! :oh:

but I guess I gotta take it... hopefully he'll develop under rafa... I wouldn't mind if garcia went the other way and we'll pay like 16 million...

But Sabre, I remember you mentioned about his ankle being not good cause of injuries... is it a fact? or what you meant is that he's afraid of getting hurt because opponents keep on kicking his ankle...

More stories from the Echo regarding Torres

LIVERPOOL are prepared to play a waiting game for Fernando Torres, as Atletico Madrid dig their heels in over their captain and talisman.

The Spaniards are prepared to fight tooth and nail to hang on to the 23-year-old, after more than 350 supporters protested in a city square yesterday about his possible sale.

Talks have taken place between the Reds and Madrid officials, but with the player now on holiday until July 10, Liverpool are prepared to wait until Torres returns to pre-season training and can force the issue himself.

Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has told Liverpool he can't stop them buying Fernando Torres.

"All players have a buyout clause and if they meet it then there's nothing we can do," said Cerezo.

But that clause is set at £27m - a fee Liverpool believe is over-priced.

Reds officials also say they are unaware of any clause entitling the player to 10 per cent of the transfer fee, as reports today claimed.

As revealed in the Echo, as well as Torres Rafa Benitez has other targets in mind - among them PSV striker Arouna Kone, Ajax's Klaas Huntelaar and Diego Milito at Real Zaragoza.

I still hear that Rooney is overpriced and overrated - same stuff with Torres. Yet both are great players, and United just won the league.

If Torres helps us win the league, or another Champions League, he'll be worth every penny. And at 23 he could serve us for four great years, and we could sell him for £30m if he's a success. This is not like paying £30m for Shevchenko knowing he'll be worth just £5m in two years at 32.

Oh dear not again...............

St dont you think we read other forums?

I really cant see Torres to start demanding the club lower the asking price.  His an idol over there and cant see him doing anything to upset the fans.
