DENMARK: Carlsberg confirms Liverpool sponsorship stretch
27 June 2007

Carlsberg has extended its sponsorship deal with English football team Liverpool.

The brewer announced today (27 June) that the extension will run for a further three years until the 2009-10 season, and stretches the partnership, with Carlsberg being the club's official sponsor since 1992, the longest club partnership in the English Premiership League.

"Carlsberg is very determined to support Liverpool in its ambition of continuous improving the team," said Keld Strudahl, international marketing director, Carlsberg. "We hope to see even stronger performance and hopefully some more trophies in the next three years.

The new agreement will allow the continuation of joint marketing initiatives for the mutual benefit of the club and community, as well as to utilise the partnership internationally, Carlsberg said. As official club sponsor, Carlsberg receives a rights package ensuring a global reach including the Far East, Scandinavia and Eastern Europe markets, as well as the core markets of Western Europe.

In February, Carlsberg confirmed to just-drinks that it was in talks to prolong its deal with the team. While no figures were detailed, local reports in Liverpool suggested that the agreement could see Carlsberg stump up GBP21.6m (US$42.04m) over the next three years. The current deal works out at GBP10m over two years, the city's Daily Post noted.

I still haven't forgiven them for failing to do a "Carlsberg don't do comebacks , but if they did" advert after Istanbul. B'stards, no effin' imagination.

We should be getting more than £21m over 3 years when you consider a club like spurs are getting £34million over 4 years from their shirt sponsors.

21 million over 3 years plus all you can drink.  Far better than any Spurs deal. :-)

You seem to think the club are stupid. Do you think the club doesnt know what Spurs signed and would agree less? With the ongoing love affair between LFC and Carlsberg, it coculd end up being the Carlsberg stadium and they donate 70 million over 5 years for its construction etc.. on top of the shirt sponsership.

Its all speculation but Spurs arent getting a better deal than the 5 times European Cup winners I can assure you.

I don't care about any love affair, business is business. The fact the stadium COULD be named the 'Carlsberg Stadium' is no good to us at the moment. £21million over 3 years in todays market is no where good enough for a brand as strong as us, and trust me if we were to sell the rights to the stadium we would have plenty of bigger, more high profile companies interested and who would be prepared to pay more than Carlsberg.

It has been said over on RAWK (so I don't know how true it is) that the guy at Mansion who agrred the deal with spurs has been bollcked big time (may even have lost his job) over the amount paid to sponsor spurs.

In an ideal world we'd be getting more money out of Carlsberg so that they could put that lurid green shite on our away shirts but hopefully this time round that will be ruled out as a stipulation of the contract.  :no

Even if that guy at Mansion was given the bullet, don't think Spurs will give a damn, as they got a great deal. I personally think Parry is not shrewd enough and has more of an 'old school' kind of mentality. I think the yanks will eventully get rid of him. ALL IMO of course.

If I was ridiculously rich and I owned Liverpool Football Club, the first thing I'd do is to remove the advert from the shirt,as a few european clubs, or most of the nationals teams do.

But if we have to wear one brand, then Carlsberg is nice. Business is business.
