Benitez has changed his tune considerably following the rant after the champions league final.

Seemed he was all for recruting quickly and making a signal of intent early doors but now he is calling for patience and saying that he is not worried about the situation.

It is the mixed messages coming out of Anfield that have us all on pins wondering exactly what we are to expect from the new campaign.

Until we see light at the end of the tunnel and some contracts signed we will continue to see threads of a similar nature from concerned supporters.

KOP BLOG.....

Where’s The American Revolution?
Despite the title of my last blog, it seems there is very little stirring at Anfield on the transfer front, after all. All that’s come out of the club over the last few days is mixed messages. So much for this American revolution of ours, can someone please wake me when it starts!

Tomorrow it will be exactly 5 weeks since we lost in the final of the Champions League in Athens and it will also be exactly 5 weeks since Rafa’s after match outburst when he stated quite firmly that the club must stop all the talking and move quickly to secure our transfer targets for next season.

However in the last few days he seems to have done a complete about-face on those comments and told fans that there is now no urgency, everything’s cool, calm down and take a chill pill (click here) . I also seen that our new co-owner Tom Hicks was asked about the transfer situation at the club in the states last week and said that he doesn’t make comments about ,transfer matters. I mean Jesus, the guy couldn’t stop talking about spending money in the transfer market a few weeks ago and now suddenly he’s been struck dumb!

I’ve been holding off posting a new blog in the hope that we would have secured at least one of our targets by now, but it seems we are no further forward then we were 5 weeks ago. The player we seem to have been most closely linked with is Fernando Torres but his club Atletico Madrid have said that we haven’t even made a bid for him (click here) . Now of course, all of this stuff could be all double talk and we could unveil a couple of new signings by the end of the week, but I’m totally :censored: off with it all at the moment and I’m not feeling very optimistic that anything is going to happen any time soon.

I know there are those who will say that there is still plenty of time left in this transfer window and that there is probably a lot of work going on in the background, but even so, there’s no disguising the fact that it is extremely disappointing that we haven’t so far managed to fire a single shot in this much promised American revolution.

It’s doubly disappointing when we’ve seen the mancs win the Premiership and still go out and back their manager’s judgement by forking out £50million on two virtually unknown and untested young players. This is one of the teams we are supposed to be trying to catch up with and yet it appears we are unwilling to pay £20million+ for a proven international who is one of the hottest young strikers in the world. We obviously have a lot of catching up to do and despite all the big talk of our new owners, it appears at the moment to be, same :censored:, different season.

These guys seem to have been enjoying the experience since they took over and have said that they are on a learning curve, but I think there is one lesson they have yet to learn. They talk of plans, projects and moving on to next phases etc, which are all forms of marketing speak that may sound very impressive in American boardroom meetings but Liverpool fans have a low :censored: tolerance, we can smell it a mile off and our nostrils are starting to twitch.

The 5 weeks since Athens have flown by and in case anybody out there needs a wake up call, in another 5 the new season will be almost upon us and we have so far made absolutely no progress towards building a side that can realistically challenge in the Premiership. Even the most optimistic among us would be hard pressed to make an argument for us to finish any higher then third with the squad we have at the moment. Our current inactivity in the transfer market is beginning to remind me of Nero fiddling while Rome burnt and quite frankly I find it a little embarrassing.

I have to fly off for a few days in the morning and I’m not sure if I’ll be able to get online where I’m going, but if not I’ll be back on Sunday night. Hopefully by then there will be something more positive to blog about, but the way things are going I’m not holding my breath!

Where are the new players?
Tom Hicks and George Gillett made promises of transfer fees when they took Liverpool over but so far we’ve seen nothing but empty hands.

Liverpool have been linked with all kinds of players: Samuel Eto’o, Fernando Torres, Yossi Benayoun, etc but so far no moves and low-ball offers. In trying to land Fernando Torres, Liverpool seem more interested in moving some of their less desirable players in part exchange but Atletico Madrid are not interested, knowing full well what their player is worth. Lots of talk of a Torres offer but none has officially be made.

Despite Benitez being quoted as needing his squad set up as early as possible there seems to be no movement to strengthen in areas the team needs. In fact, the only significant move of the summer is for a holding midfielder something Liverpool have a glut of.

What is all the delay for? Is this a sign that the new owners are more interested in profit than they are the club? Is Liverpool going to wait for a bidding war to ensue while the new owners acclimate themselves to the way the global transfer market operates? All interesting questions and not a lot of answers.

For example, one situation that puzzles me is that Marseille want to buy Djibirl Cisse and Liverpool won’t make a deal. They should sell the player and take the cash. Bolton are also interested in him for 6m. He should have been sold before Torres was available. Same goes for Craig Bellamy and Momo Sissoko, with a glut in midfield why is he needed? Sell him. Combine the transfers for all 3 players and you have half the money you need for Fernando Torres. It seems like Liverpool want to sell their players for the maximum and buy their players cheaply. It won’t work that way. If Darren Bent is worth 17m pounds you can bet Torres is worth 20+. Sell the players, buy your striker and settle the team for a run next season.

AND THIS....

Eto'o and Torres top Benitez's Liverpool shopping list as he chases down Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal

Are Liverpool on the verge of beginning a new golden era with the assistance of an American cash injection? And is Rafa the perfect foreman for the rebuilding job?
'Benitez has managed to persuade the gems that he does posses to stick around and finish the job. Heaven knows what kind of damage would have been done had Steven Gerrard jumped ship' With messrs Gillett and Hicks manning the cashpoint at Anfield, a potential sea change on Merseyside is signalled. A team that in the last 16 years has only found success in cup competitions, albeit including an unforgettable  Champions League triumph in 2005, there is every indication that the cash injection given to manager Rafa Benitez will generate a power shift towards Liverpool.

Thierry Henry's move to Barcelona could be the catalyst for a mid-summer transfer rush and throws up a number of intriguing alternatives. Benitez won't be slow to evaluate the possible off-shoots to Henry's arrival at the Nou Camp. And the immediate thought is: Have Liverpool got the cash and persuasive powers to lure Samuel Eto'o to Anfield?
They are desperate for a top quality striker, having lost old reliable Robbie Fowler and likely to lose Craig Bellamy. Eto'o alongside Peter Crouch has a good, solid ring to it and would certainly be a winner with Liverpool's fans.

Of course, Barcelona aren't exactly overloaded with strikers themselves and if they lose Eidur Gudjohnsen to any one of several Premiership clubs - Manchester United, Aston Villa and Spurs (and Liverpool?) are all sniffing - they may be reluctant to let Eto'o go. But Rafa's shopping list includes a number of alternatives and Athletico Madrid's Fernando Torres is near the top. Any new arrivals, along with the enormous talent already on the books, should add up to a package that could be simply irresistible. Liverpool also have the hunger factor, having been starved of domestic success for so long.

And that hunger factor should not be underestimated. It may be a defining part of what may push Liverpool ahead of their opponents. As Chelsea and Manchester United focus their attentions on much needed Champions League success, having already won a host of Premiership medals, Liverpool minds will be firmly on the Premiership having been so far behind (21 points off top last time around) the pack for so long. This is the longest period of time since World War II that Liverpool have gone without lifting the top trophy.

Success in the Premiership, or lack of it, is, in a big way, down to a succession of average managerial appointments and a lack of big money signings, all of which has seen them slip behind United and Chelsea. With Benitez in charge they have a manager who will not simply throw money at the problem but will attempt to pick up the players he needs to complete the re-building process that began when he took over in June 2004.

Benitez has managed to persuade the gems that he does posses to stick around and finish the job. Heaven knows what kind of damage would have been done had Steven Gerrard jumped ship. He must now turn his attention to  convincing any potential signing that Liverpool are now the real deal, a team that has everything in place to mount a serious challenge and that the Reds are about to begin a whole new era, one that will see them cement their place in the rich history of a club well overdue a comeback.

Next season could well mark Liverpool's re-emergence to match their successes of 20 years ago. Under the guidance of Kenny Dalglish they romped to the title. Now a lot will rest on what happens over the next six weeks and who Rafa picks up in the summer sales.

Can Eto'o, Torres, Gerrard and Carragher be the new Rush, Dalglish, Houghton and Hansen?

Are the glory days coming back to Anfield? What pieces are needed to complete the puzzle? Post a comment or write an article for Sportingo

The likes of Eto'o and Tevez are simply disinterested in LFC because of the football we play coz they know they wont thrive in a defensive team. Benitez is too defensive and only players needeing to make a good step in their careers might be tempted. At the moment this site will be littered with romours!!!! 66 days to go till window closes!!!
