Fair point Reg. Never thought of that. Still think it could happen, maybe wenger thinks its time to change tack and try and use a out n out striker alongside adabyor or van persie. don't think he had that since ian wright and bergkamp? the injuries would be a concern though.

anyway, sorry to all for discussing arsdenals concerns on here! sounded concerned for a mo!!!

Henry wasn't a bad out and out striker in my book.

it will be a helping hand to liverpool as arsenal have been one of their closest rivals for a few years now due to the placing in the prem
however i still feel a bit gloomy about missing out on seeing Henry on match of the day each weekend. he brought so much to english footie n good luck to him

Has to be one of the best deals ever, bargain of the decade, the century and so much more. £16m! A snip! And he'll kick @ss in spain. If I were Parry or Rafa, I'd throw a £20m bid in just in case. We probably wouldn't stand a chance in hell, but has to be worth a shout.

But what does this mean for eto'o? Probably nothing... yet. Eto'o is probably the prime reason for Henry going to Barca, and rumour has it that the former African player of the year has been phoning the Arsenal star every day.
If the deal goes through, which it probably will, Barcelona will be in possetion of one of the greatest attacking line-ups ever. Ronaldinho, Eto'o, Messi and Henry. In one team! Why would Barca want to get rid of any of that? For at least one season, this will be in effect at Barca. It is after this initial year that developments will happen, in my humble opinion, of course. If Rijkard stays, which is a bit 50/50 at the moment, he'll stick to his favoured system with one out and out striker backed up by two attacking/striking/midfield wide players, roles currently filled by Eto'o, Ronaldinho and Messi respectively. Henry would jump ahead of Eto'o who doesn't like to be thought of as second best, as his recent row with Ronaldinho has shown. If he's not playing much next season, he may be gone in january.
If Rijkard goes, his replacement will have one hell of a job picking 3 from 4. These are not the sort of players (or fans) who settle for rotational systems. Who would you drop? Messi (the future, the new Maradonna), Ronaldinho (the best, the joker, the crown jewel), Eto'o (lethal, precise, a sure thing) or Henry (the magician, the brain and the touch). Sorry for the stuff in brackets, but that really is the choice that will befall Rijkard and/or his successor. Or do you play all four and compromise the defence and the tried and tested tactics that have brought two successive league titles to the Nou Camp?

I think our chance with Eto'o is over, though I'd be thrilled if we do get him. These four egos will not be able to live with each other for long. So next season, it is almost certain that one of them will be cast off. That will be when the fun starts.

On another note, if Henry goes, i'd be pretty sad. I know it will make our lives (and Carra's) much easier in terms of getting past the gunners to the top. But Henry is top draw and what he can do with a ball sometimes beggers belief. He is a true vertuoso of the game and i count myself lucky to be able to see his skills on MOTD every week. Brilliant player.

I think i will have a bet on henry joining liverpool in the next few years now and see what odds i can get for him.Remember in the internationals he plays for france he doesnt really shine and i think he will be like that in spain hence the reason he will come back to england were the defenders are less disaplined and who will go for him when his fee drops again after an unsuccessful spell.....liverpool

Wenger has 16 million in his pocket and needs to replace TH, needs to bring in a young and clinical striker. Who would the likely candidates be and would that affect the lads we're after.

And..... would a top footy player prefer to sign for Arsenal or the Reds? Important point, at the end of the day... same pay, same chance of success but to live in swinging London or Liverpool? For example I could see Trezeguet going to Arsenal but not to Liverpool.

Whats Wenger's plan...?  :help

they would of got more last summer though.  My friend supports Arsenal and his not happy at all.

Rijkaard doesnt want Messi and Dinho tracking back as he uses the classic 4-4-3 system which the great dutch sides used.  The 3 attacking players in this system dont need to track back.  Yeah this season they had problems but they were playing the same way for 2 years before and that delivered 2 La Liga titles and a CL title.

So that's why they do so well, they use an extra player

ive spoken to some gooner friends of mine about henry going there gutted of course, but there also starting to turn on wenger now. He was apparently given a transfer kitty of 40 million to spend and there angry that he hasnt used any of it, there saying maybe if he showed henry he was bringing in top players and not just kids he would have stayed. so with the money theve got in the kitty and for henry plus aliadiere there quids in now. Come on Hicks hurry up and get you cheque book out.

heard barcelona are also close to signing chivu from roma...deal would include Giuly,Belleti and 12mill goin to Roma...might mean Mancini is allowed to leave since Roma also play a 4-3-3 with 2 attacking wingers and with Giuly on the way, if the right offer comes in i think they'll be willing to sell mancini now...
about barcelona and how they play i think they will probably go for a modified 3-5-2 looking something like this... deco is also rumoured to be headed to intermilan !

        Valdes
Thuram  Puyol  Chivu
    Marques      Zambrotta
             Xavi
Messi              Ronaldinho
        Etoo
           Henry

messi to trackback more often and they got it all figured out...
as for arsenal...i think they'll be okay if they can sign a good striker to play alongside the brilliant RV.Persie.. Henry is irreplacable and they will probably suffer in his absence but then again, they are starting to make it somewhat of a tradition selling their best players or allowing them leave ... they always seem to find decent replacement (campbell, Vieira now Henry) !

out of all this mess... hope we can end up getting Mancini...would be huge in this league if we can sign him...

Arsenal never replaced Vieira..

Fabregas is too lightweight, Gilberto has been good.
But no one has replaced to physical presence that Vieira brought.

There were strong rumours Chivu was going to Inter but Chivu denied it.  Said his looking to extend his contract at Roma.
