Comedy back then was the same as it is today, only today you have a finer line to cross. Bernard Manning played to the crowd, and if you noticed it was like a local pub where he used to perform and so gave them comedy in a form in which they wanted to hear. How many jokes have been told about black people, gays, bums, doleys, immigrants, women, men, criminals. Today there are so many rights that people have that you have to rule out jokes about everyone except men and doleys !
I think he was much misunderstood by many people and so wish him and his family peace.

a joke about race but not make the teller a racist, just as a joke about murder does not make the teller a murderer.

as i have already said in the thread it was an act, just like daniel craig is not really a secret agent, its an act catered for an mature audience who are not afraid to laugh at jokes about race (remember his jokes were also aimed at scousers, welsh, scottish, irish, english as well as asian and blacks), so remember guys jokes about race are not really racist jokes.

work it out yourselves, these people who cant se jokes for what they are realy annoy, in fact its you people who are making the situation worse and making whites scared to say anything in case an innocent unracist comment offends some pr1ck who isnt even ethnic but feels like they have to champion the cause of minorities. how about championing the cause for your own race once in a while

I have seen Bernard Manning a few times live, and hes always had me pmsl. Great comedian.

i saw him when i was in the police, we went to the embassy club, he knew who we were and he always made sure we were waited on properly and had seats at the front, he also ripped us big style, but like i say we knew what we would see and get when we were there. we saw comedy, we heard jokes about many subjects but never racist, they were aimed at cultural differences and we could all see them for what they were, they were taking the p1ss out of everyone (and i might add there were many asians in the audience when i went, mature people who can see humour for what it is and dont need other to try and defend them when they themselves dont see anything offensive, they just see a comedy act.

(cue some moron now making a comment about the police being racist).

now heres a thought, just suppose he was racist and wanted a white britain, who is to say that his views are wrong, what if the people craving a multicultural soiety are wrong. lets see and all white britain with no race problems, or a multicultural britain with race problems. (just playings devils advocate here before anyone goes off on one, i know its not a possibilty, many minorities i the UK are 3rd and 4th generation and are just as english as i am (my father is lithuanian).

also when these people stick up for certain cultures they do so whilst ignoring how racist the cultures are themselves, as an example a pakistani family will send their son or daughter to pakistan to marry into their own race and religion, not allowing any relationship with whites, never mind marriage. surely that is racism and some of you are defending that whilst criticising whites for racism.

Northern Ireland has throughout it's history been predominantly white.

No "race" problems among whites.

But other problems for sure.

like i say mate i was playing devils advocate and talking specifically about race problems, i am not saying it would remove All problems as that would be suggesting all problems are caused by minorities, which isnt the case, problems would still exist but race problems would be removed

just highlight that this is not my belief and you have only quoted a small part making it appear that way, its just highlighting how wrong the pc brigade are when they only take their view while discarding the other view

I don't believe in god but I'd laugh if Manning goes to heaven and sees that Jesus is black (or at least light brown middle east style) and that Jesus tells him to "F*ck off you cracker"
