Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby account deleted by request » Wed Jun 20, 2007 1:09 am

If you dont like a thread don't post in it, that way it will drop out of sight all the quicker. If people want to play what if where's the harm? Its a football forum 99% of its speculation anyway.

We should have played Crouch, we would have won
Rotation is costing us points
We should buy Tevez
We have no money
We have loads of money

All speculation

If we just talked about facts there would be very little discussion.

Just find a thread you like and stop trying to spoil the ones YOU don't.

I'm not trying to spoil the threads I dislike, I am pointing out how this thread takes it to the next level of negativity and speculative thinking. A "what if" about analysing what has happened in past matches e.g. had we played crouch, this may have been different, is completely different from speculating about if Rafa is going to leave. One is purely analytical on past events, the other is overtly negative and unnecessary.

Its football talk thats all, I dont want to spoil this thread arguing with you, if you dont like it just find a thread that matches your interests and post in there. Personally I am interested in others views on managers etc and this is as good a way as any to get the ball rolling.

yup...it's a possible scenario...rafa has done it before...

personally I would get mourinho...then he would at least say 'the best team lost' and make us feel better... j/k

capello or scholari...if we fail to bring them in maybe martin o'neil...

Yeah I like Martin O'neil, always makes me laugh. I was surprised Villa faded so fast after the start he made there. Wouldn't fancy Mourino as our manager myself, but he's another that makes me laugh (and angry).

I would prefer a British manager next although I realise very few British managers have the European experience big clubs seem to require now.

To be honest, there are many Spanish coachs as of late in the Spanish league

Juande Ramos stock has risen immeasurably over recent seasons and would be the pick of the present bunch for me. (presuming the Spanish link would be preserved). Aside from his early career, which naturally pales into significance over and above his highly creditable achievements currently at Sevilla FC.  Not much is known about his previous History on these shores, not least the fact that he was involved in the Barcelona 'B' setup during the mid-nineties, before going on to take the helm at clubs such as Vallecano, Betis, Espanyol and Malaga without too much of an impact. Despite recent reports linking him to Manchester City, it is completely plausible that should he decide to stay on in Andalucia and recieve the necessary backing. It is entirely possible that the clubs 61 year exile from the Primera crown (their only one) is likely to be considered with a higher than average chance of coming to an end, considering the momentum under development there. Depending equally of course on the calibre of its key personnel (of which there are a few) remaining at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan long enough to realise that goal before the inevitable vultures swoop.

Besides, none of this is really relevant to Liverpool at all. Is it?

But if you are asking for a 'suitable' candidate to step into the shoes of Benitez, should he suddenly decide to stand down...that isnt going to set the wheels firmly into a 3 year decline before they find traction again.  My assumption is (and it is entirely based around several very 'loosely' related factors btw)  Ramos might, could, maybe fit the bill.  At least with regards to some modicom of continuity within the current fold being maintained. There are at least 'some' similarities, somewhere along the line if you factor everything into the equation. In any case (imo) a far smoother transition than appointing someone with a completely alien philosophy. Again, that statement is derived from a geographically native standpoint alone, and perhaps is not without its share of ignorance when considered as a decisive element in making up the sum parts of a 'whole'. Its a start though.....

And by that i purely mean the fact that he is indeed Spanish, relatively young (52) in managerial terms.  Therefore (similar) cultural footballing trends already rooted within the clubs present rationale would be one less barrier to oppose in the setting up of any new regime that would have to require its own fair share of a 'bedding in' process. That alluded to the fact that i actually do rate his acumen as a coach.  A great one?  Time may well eventually substantiate that fact. Perhaps not. But I'd rather see the likes of Ramos here than an Eriksson or a Capello.

...Anybody would start to believe Rafa had already asked for his cards listening to this drivel.  God, retirement really was that boring!  and besides (disclaimers abound) the entire thread is being entertained within the spirit of 'speculation'. So every license and liberty going will of course be shattered and shat all over in the process! Things really ARE that tedious at the moment.

Now where did i put the Arsenic (just in case we dont sign anybody tomorrow...or even the day after)!

You mean, speculating for the sake of speculating, or Spanish coachs?  :D

I remember an article you brought about Spanish coachs, and having Juande in high regard. Not that I think he's a bad coach whatsoever, but I think he's picking the fruits of a work done since Sevilla was relegated. For me the real secret of why Sevilla was in Segunda in 2000, and UEFA Champion in 2007, is a man called Monchi, an ex player who's been spot on in almost every decission the club has made. Caparros made the skeleton of the team, and Juande, an OK-goodish coach has picked the glory.

And that's relevant for Liverpool Football Club, because some people in all the world think that coachs are some sort of "King Midas" that can touch and become things gold, when often the failures and successes are set up through the years most of the time.

We shall see that, or maybe not, the next time  Juande goes to a good team. I have my doubts :) . Rafa instead has made a point in two important teams already, and has given the Liga to Valencia after I don't know how many years, more than 30 (don't feel like checking the internet)

BTW the jump to City has been stopped, but it was an strange rumour, jumping from Sevilla to City is a "valiant" step, as City is not a top club, and Sevilla are current UEFA champions. The fact he even considered such a move, puts him as valiant in my eyes.

I wouldn't like the next coach of LFC would be Spanish, I'd rather pick an English one that pick a squad of 22 great players, with no rotation whatsoever, and Gung Ho attack with 2 strikers no matter what. I wouldn't be happy, but most of you would, so that's good enough to me

jose mourinho.
his man management skills are very good judging from the backing he has gotten from the players while he was receiving stick from the russian.
and he never fails to entertain us. with all his wit and sarcasm.
we could do with someone who has an attitude like him.
he has an impact on other managers too!
his mouth got ferguson to stop thinking bout retirement. :D
